Greg Jarboe on Worthwhile Video Content

A little while back I linked to Greg Jarboe’s article on YouTube keyword and video optimization. This month Greg has posted the next instalment in the series, Creating Online Video Content that is Worth Watching. In this article Greg highlights some examples of the good and the bad, and posts some important stats:

Most videos steadily lose viewers once ‘play’ is clicked, with an average 10.39% of viewers clicking away after ten seconds and 53.56% leaving after one minute.

Does that mean all videos should be under 1 minute? Not necessarily … but you’ll have to check out Greg’s article to learn why.

  1. The first 10-15 seconds of any video are crucial in what the watcher will do next. It’s like you are meeting someone for the first time and you need to impress that person or he/she will just leave. If the first seconds of a video are catchy they will keep the viewer glued to his computer in anticipation of what is to follow.
