Andrew Shotland of Local SEO Guide recently published his research on the top ranking Internet Yellow Pages sites for local businesses. His methodology is laid out in detail within his article, so I won’t repeat it here. In summary, he took the top 20 IYP Business Categories and searched the top 20 US cities by size, scoring the directories by the number and prominence of their rankings.
Not surprisingly, the top few directories control most of the traffic, so these sites should be most highly prioritized by florists looking to improve their local search rankings. Having consistent data across all authoritative sources (like IYPs) is crucial, so you might want to consider a service like Universal Business Listings that will correct and unify your business information at the top of the data stream.
Keep an eye on this blog for a similar study of Florist-specific directories 🙂
Thanks for mentioning the report. Let me know when you come out with the Florist data. It would be great if all of the vertically focused SEOs came out with their own versions of the report and we mashed them all together.
