Wow. Julie Muligan, Jim McCann's sister, must be one heck of a floral designer. From a Newsday article, the company recently disclosed:
Julie Mulligan, McCann's sister, worked as a "personality expert designer," in fiscal 2005 and 2006, a title she still holds. In '06, she was paid $335,930, which included a $205,930 bonus, according to the proxy. Her salary increased from $129,500 in the previous fiscal year.
$335,930
Mulligan, Pititto said, is one of the company's expert floral designers in Flowers' pricey "designer flowers" unit. Average prices in the section are about $150, compared with about $62 in the regular floral area, Pititto said.

"Julie's designs are among the best sellers we have," Pititto said. "Her bonus is based on that."
Wonder what they're paying Preston Bailey and Jan Packer????? Didn't I hear that 1-800 reps were telling florists they should be paying designers $8/hour?

Yes, I'm green with envy.

Jim McCann's salary has remained the same...
- $975,000 -
for the past three years!

His brother (Chris) and daughter (Erin) also got $548K and $64K, respectively. What exactly did they do to earn this much?

How many members are in Bloomnet? Let's say 5,000. Does this mean that each Bloomnet member paid, in 2006, $67 (=336K/5,000) to his sister, $110 to his brother, $195 to Jim McCann, and $13 to his daugter? $385 total for him and his realtives... now that's generous. Does anyone know how much FTD executives are getting?

BMT is upwards of 9,000 now, and that's hardly the source of the funding for the wages. Her designs sell - very well, in fact, and she's paid well for it.

I have no idea what the appropriate scale is, but if anyone else is selling a tonne of work for $150 avg / order, can you tell us if this is out of line?

First of all, I do doubt that her designs are selling at $150 a piece on average. In fact all they said was the average sales in "Designer Flowers" section is $150; that section includes the products from 5 designers.

If you look at Julie Mulligan's section, the mest expensive one appears to be only $80.

Secondly, I have a serious doubt that any other designers at 1-800 are being paid this much. They have 4 other designers at "Designer Flowers" section, and perhaps many more unknown designers for their regular offerings.

Let's say the sales of those designs other than Ms Mulligan's consists "only" 95% of 1-800-flowers.com sales. In other words, "only" 20-times more than Ms Mulligan's products. Can you belive that 1-800 is shelling out a total of $6 millions (20 x her compensation), or most likely much more, for these designer's payroll/commissions? Considering their revenue scale, I just doubt it. I belive that she is the only one who is being this much. I really do (but I admit I have no evidence for my belief).

This is a classical case of nepotism in my opinion, it doesn't look good. If this is the corporate culture of 1-800, their future is doomed.

It does seem rather unlikely that 1800 is paying all of its designers that much...it sure would be interesting to be a fly on the wall at 1800 HQs this week after all her "partners" discover how much she made.

Although most likely they have been aware of this nepotism since day 3 or so...

Hey dzynrprincess, it isn't cold here but Jane won't let me wear shorts because I'll scare the customers!
As I write it's 8 celcius (47 F) and actually I'm sitting here at the computer drinking red wine so I'm even warmer!
You know, they say if you don't have 'winter' you don't really appreciate warm weather!
Oh yes, actually we don't drink the Screech - it's just for 'export' and tourists! :>

It was a beautiful 72 degrees today and I think I actually got a bit of a tan at lunch on the back deck @ work. You see on thursday we take a long lunch, sip "hootch" and take a short nap before returning to work!
AAHHHHH.... What a life!:beer

That sounds like a Mexican siesta, si? Hootch sounds something like screech?? And sun tans are bad for you :> but I could use a nap! Ah well, Saturday's a holiday.....
