1-800flowers and Credit cards

I keep getting orders from 1-800flowers to do a teleflora order. #1, I'm not teleflora, and #2, I won't take a direct order from them without a Credit card.

Last year at Mothers day, my help took 3 orders from them direct, I had a problem collecting on 2 of the orders, didn't get a check until Aug. There is no one else that delivers in my area, when I turn down an order, they don't get flowers. (Except direct ship of course)

I will get another call from them tomorrow about the same order, will tell them the same thing, this will go on for 3 or 4 days.

It doesn't bother me to turn down the order, they are usually very discounted anyway, but I do feel bad that someone is not getting their flowers. Why won't they just give a CC, doesn't everyone work with CC these days? Am I asking too much?

Just hope that the customer ordering these flowers from them will wise up and call me direct.

Where is the closest, or, how many 800 shops are within let's say 20 - 30 miles of you ?
 
I had to do a quick check, I knew there wasn't any within 100 miles of me, but I was surprised to see that there isn't even a single one in the state of KS.

I wonder, in a situation like that, if associating with them would or could be profitable ?
Seems like a unique situation.
If I had no 800 shops let's say within 50 miles of me I would be huge, and I already process large numbers for them.

I'm guesing that as they have no or possibly limited exposure by you they farm the orders through TF and FTD, or anyone else that'll handle them.

Need some other input on this from the wisdom section of FC.
 
Boss, I am 150 miles from KC. There may be more I don't know of, I did a locate flower shop search on their site and came up with nothing.

We are a small town, I average about 4 calls from them a month. They aren't associated with FTD anymore at all, correct me if i'm wrong. They usually always want to send it teleflora. I would fill orders for them, no problem, but I do have a problem waiting for 3 months to get my money, and that was after calling them twice. They always say that they were behind, or they had a computer problem, once they said they didn't send me the order, I gave them the reference #, and low and behold they found it. It just seemed a headache for an average of a $35.00 order delivered .

As I asked, is it too much trouble for them to come up with a CC? Surely they have CC. When We do take a Teleflora order direct from Teleflora headquarters they always give me their CC, it's never a problem.

Maybe I should just accept them this holiday, and see how long it takes to get my check and how much of a hassle it will be.

Well it surprised me too, but KS wasn't even on their drop down list. Maybe I was looking in the wrong place. But I am sure that there aren't any that deliver into my area. I'm kinda out in the boonies!!!! lol

If they need it delivered badly enough they will give you a credit card. I got a call on Christmas Eve and told the CSR that I would not take the order without immediate payment. She said there was no way she could do that. Ten minutes later, she called back.

Don't take their orders unless you can make money on them and you get paid with a c/c. You hold the power in this situation. Make them play by your rules.

The list you were looking at was for florists who have a 800-flowers sponsored website. That is not a complete list of 800-flowers affillitate florists. You need a directory to look that up.

Lori, makes sense, I thought that was weird that they didn't have anything listed in KS.
It's been one of the no brain days if you know what I mean... lol!

Sounds to MEE as if YOU, Vikki, have ALL THE POWER in your part of Kansas.

While I don't agree with FILLING ORDERS for ANY OF OUR FLORAL ORDER GATHERER COMPETITORS, you need to use TOTO's magic words with them in the future.

" WHY CERTAINLY, and WHICH CREDIT CARD DO YOU LIKE TO USE? "

In addition, I wouldn't discount any order gatherer order plus I would be charging them your usual $ervice charge for delivery.

Otherwise, BE GONE! YOU HAVE NO POWER HERE!

Worst case scenario (for them) is that, the sender will seek out and find you, the REAL FLORIST who bee DOING ALL DA DOO with the 100% sale FORE YOU!

Now, THAT'S A PLAN, ey?

Funny you should say that TOTO,,, I got a call today, right before I closed at 5:30, from the customer that called 1-800flowers, they were desperate, it was their mothers birthday, could I possibly deliver an arrangement to her today, it was so important that he didn't forget her birthday.. He said that he ordered them yesterday, but just got called from 1-800flowers to tell him that there wasn't a flower shop in the area. Well, I have been here for 26 years,, he even told me that he told them to call me....

I made the arrangment, delivered it, all within 1 hr., explainied to him, please call me directly and you will always recieve what you want, when you want!

Had they told your customer THEY did not have a shop in YOUR area, the half truth might be acceptable. However, their outright LIE is not!

Keep your 100% customer sales plan intact since, allowing them to USE YOU is NOT ACCEPTABLE!

Given I am still learning about the Stateside operators can you just clarify somehting. Is this 1800 flowers the Jim McCaan operation or something/someone else.

If the former why don't they send orders through Bloomnet which I thought was thier floist based wire service.

If the latter who is it really?

Yes, it is Jim McCaan , and it is still Bloomnet.

I know I used to get FTD's from 1-800, but they are no longer FTD, now they call trying to give me Teleflora orders, which I am not a member of. They have never tried to give me a bloomnet order, but I'm not a member of that either. So if they want me to fill an order from them I have made it a policy that I need a CC, as I stated I had a problem getting paid after MD last year. They don't seem to want to give a CC, so we go round a round for days with the same order.

I just wish consumers would stop buying from them, and come directly to me.
