Hi, getting ready to make the kindergarten a 100th day of school cake for tomorrow. I need creative ideas on what to do with it. I think I'm supposed to put 100 m & m's on it somehow, but I can't decide if I want to keep it simple or go all out. It will be a large sheetcake cut into 24 pieces. I've got a few cake deco tips and bags, food coloring, etc. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!

I can't think of a way to do too much more than evenly sprinkle the m&m's over the icing when your done. I would also write on the cake, in a basic printing congratulations on 100 days or something to that effect, but any cool design like making a 100 out of m&m's will be an issue when the cake is cut and some little person doesn't get their fair share of them., Good luck! :)

Ilike making a 100 out of m&m's will be an issue when the cake is cut and some little person doesn't get their fair share of them., :)

Yes, we've thought of that--do I put even amounts on all the pieces, or make something cool like a school bus or little red schoolhouse and just decorate with m&m's and then serve up the extra m&m's on the side for anyone who didn't get any on their piece. Of course, I just want to be the coolest mom so I feel like I have to pull out all the stops!

I would just write on the cake then place the candies around evenly. I would even think about cutting the cake first, then writing then candy. Less pressure, tomorrow and one less thing to tote into school! That way it's about four m&m's per piece. Be as creative as you want with the icing, but you know it's gonna be I want the blue one, I want the green one, I want the bus, I want, I want, I want... The cool mom is already doing her job, she made the cake! :)

Well, here it is! It didn't turn out as well as I would have liked, but I'm getting too old to stay up late to do this stuff--I opted for easy! My hands hurt too much to squeeze frosting too much and my paste colors are almost dried up. Sometimes a person just needs to know when to say when and just get it done. Thanks for the advice!

You can bake me a cake any ole time...the m&m's make me think of chicken pox's...sorry but they did and it gave me a chuckle...the kids will think you are the coolest Mom in town...now that you will have that rep...be prepared...for more cakes...half the Moms nowdays can't find the kitchen much less bake a cake! Stand up and be proud!

You're both so sweet!

Y'know, the m&m's reminded me of something too, and, by golly, I think you're right Sher, it IS the pox!

No matter how busy I get, or how tired I am, I adore doing things for my kids. They didn't ask to be brought into this world so I just want to make it the most pleasant place for them! I would've made a great stay-at-home mom/homemaker, but since there's other things to tend to, I just hope they'll remember the good times and growing up at the shop instead of at a daycare!
