I dug out my AFS "PFD Design Manual" which shows the history of wedding bouquets thru the ages. (this was published in 1993).... here's what they say:
"In the 1950's Gamellias were considered impressive and luxurious. They were considered a tribute to the professional designers who made them. Often several were joined together to form a bouquet or a cascade. They were featured heavily in bridal magaizines."
In the 1960's (remember free love, and getting married in a meadow), everyone was encouraged to "do your own thing" Television began to influence wedding trends. Presidential daughters' wedding set the trends for society's weddings. The "posy" made a compack once again. The pop hippie culture brought flower children. Weddings took place on hilltops, at sunset or dawn, with brides picking a handfull of field flowers just before the ceremony. Wedding dresses were made of simple fabrics like cotton and guaze and laces made of natural materials."
(the picture shown for this era is a wildflower bouquet of queen annes lace, monte casino, sprigs of rye, astors, and other natural materials & wildflowers, in a simple handl-tied look or arm bouquet look).
"The 1970's were the decade of transformation -- cascading linear bouquets, very formal style, contrast in flowers & colors within the bouquets. Informal weddings used a single flower or a clutch of flowers unarranged."
Hope this helps you...... and Good luck!

Cheryl
