Today I taught my first FFK class and it was fantastic. The kids were great and really got into it. There was a lot of interest and participation from the kids. Some of the other teachers stopped by to see what was going on so I'm sure I'll be hearing from them - (I handed out many business cards). Delaware Valley supplied all the flowers and we had more than enough for all. My thanks go out to Delaware valley for all their help. The kids truly enjoyed picking out their flowers and making bouquets. We also got the teacher to agree to giving a free homework night if the kids come into the shop to get their flower diploma. All they have to do is bring their diploma to class and show their teacher. The kids really enjoyed that - so I'm hoping to see a majority of the kids visit my shop.

I'm looking forward to teaching many more FFK!!!

Yay you! How old was your audience?

Hi Tracy!
It was a class of 4th graders. Even the boys got in to it - cause you never know how the boys will take it. One of the boys even told me he made the 'perfect bouquet.' You have to love that.

Most boys will be ok with it as long as you have some strong colored flowers like orange and red. My 6 yr old nephew likes nothing more than to saddle up at the bench next to me with a pile of red and orange flowers and mug and make an arrangement. He even loves to help me price things and display them. I have him help me display the kids stuff to get it right from their view....boy, do I miss having him here every day..sigh...

More Classes!

I recently contacted the local Girl Scout council about FFK and they have been extremely receptive. They sent out an email to all their troop leaders and I've received many calls. As of today I scheduled two classes for January and waiting to schedule two more. I was suprised to find their troops are 20+ girls plus moms. WAY back in the day - I remember my troop having maybe 5 girls. I was in it for the cookies - LOL!

I do not charge anything for the class. I find that many of these groups have limited funds and are hungry for anything different and low cost. Free is a very powerful tool that will get your foot in the door!! My product is donated by Delaware Valley and I donate my time. It is an excellent way to promote your business and great PR. These Girl Scout troops often have many mothers on hand to help with the meetings so not only are the girls learning about flower care, so are their mothers. FFK is designed to bring the kids and their parents into my store with an offer of two free flowers and a flower quiz. I have 5 classes scheduled starting in January with about 20 girls in each troop. 100 girls plus their moms is great exposure for my business as well as placing my business at top of mind for florist in my area.
