Tired of having issues with your Google Places Page? Mike Blumenthal is collecting & compiling vents, rants & plain old simple irritations about both the pages and issues involving them. His proposed article is '25 Things I have About Google Places' (and I'm sure the number will rise above 25.)

If you're on Google+, add Mike to one of your circles (I have him in a circle called "SEO SEM Smarties" ;) and you'll learn a lot about Local Search. I also shared his post so if you have me in a circle, you can read it there.

If you'd like an invitation to Google+, post your email address below and I'll send you one.

You can also post your complaints/beefs here and I'll pass them on. Here are a few I contributed to Mike'ss list:

The prominent placement of spam listings with their significant quantities of sock puppet reviews. Filing spam reports seems pointless... sigh flowerdelivery4all

Snippets... agree with what was said above. Negative terms get displayed singly, even when the reviewer was using them in a positive statement.. i.e. "I couldn't be happier" gets condensed to 'couldn't'.

Photos... whole-heartedly agree with allowing each business (with a claimed listing) to choose which photo represents them in thumbnail form. Very frustrating to have G just pluck an image.

Would love to hear your comments.

Lizi and anybody else. I think in order to participate, you need a gmail account. They are free, just set one up. You can also install a notifier on your desktop.

Cathy, the profile thumbnail is my biggest beef. I hate that I cannot choose the face I show to the public, especially since one of the ones the google photographer took is one of the BEST I've ever had of my storefront. Sheesh!

The other one that cranks me is that I've only had a total of 4 reviews. They were all very good ones, but none of them were google. I had one that used to show up with a five star rating but now I show zero. Upsetting.

So that must be what has happened to all of my reviews. I had 16 reviews, now I have 6, read something on google about the way the verify reviews. We all of my were legit, and have been really upset that they are gone.

Lizi - Your invite is on the way. :)

Regarding the 'missing' reviews, last month, Google decided to only display stars for reviews placed directly through G. Reviews from other sites still 'count' in the mix for the local algorithm - and are usually linked from your Places Page. There's much speculation as to why G dropped displaying reviews from other sites, but most are guessing it had to do with Yelp's anger at G using their review content.
