Elvis's death

This post brings back memories. Years ago, Elvis was a customer of mine in Missouri. He sent flowers to his secretaries Mother that lived near our town several times each year. He always called the orders himself and we would talk for a long time whenever he called.

One time, he asked if we were going to the FTD Convention in Las Vegas and we said we hadn't planned to. Then he said, I will be playing out there during that time if you would like to come and see my show. We went and sat with his Father and stepmother on the front row. He made the hotel reservations for us.

Over the years, I have kept a couple of letter he sent. IN fact, I was just looking one over last night and wondered if it would bring a good amount of money on EBay. It is talking about the birth of Lisa Marie because my daughter was born almost the same time and he sent her an autographed photo for her birth present.

I've been in the business a long time and have dealt with several famous people over the many years. It might be fun to start a thread about some of our celebrity cutomers.

Carol,
What a wonderful story. I bet you feel great that he would call you and talk for awhile. Thanks for sharing the story with us.

Great story Carol!
It is hard to think of celebrities as real people! But in the end they are just like you and me!
I think I will go make a pb&b sandwich!

Great story Carol....and yes, I'd bet it would bring a good sum.

Funny...I remember exactly where I was when I heard of his passing, Hersey PA of all places at a National All Morgan horse show (one of my previous careers).

The local radio station played Elvis' songs non-stop for 3 days straight.

What a great story Carol. I imagine it would sell for a large sum. If you do that though make a copy or two for your memory book. :)

I too remember the day Mark. I was a fan of Elvis. I was on the way to London to visit my parents. My Dad greeted me in the driveway... his face was laden with sadness. He had bad new for me, actually two pieces of bad news. He told me Isaac (our cat) had been hit by a car that morning. He managed to crawl his way to the yard where he subsequently died. Then he told me about Elvis. It was a lousy day all around.

This is a great story, Carol. Thank you for sharing it! I was helping my mom in her flower garden when my sister drove up and told us that she had just heard the news on the radio.

Elvis's death

His death happen on my birthday and I was going out the door to dinner with friends when the news came on the radio. We did not celebrate so much that night because it kind of hit us all. Every sentence seemed to be concerning Elvis.

Another interesting tidbit.....Even though I came from a small town, it seems that there were lots of characters living there or from there. The mortician that picked him up at his house and prepared his body for the funeral went to school with us. You keep hearing the crazies saying that he didn't really die, but, my friend embalmed him and eventually dressed him for the funeral. He told me how the family and friends at Graceland treated him and his co-workers so wonderfly when they went to pick him up. He was impressed with their kindnesses.

What a lovely human story, behind someone who had become so legendary. Thank you for sharing.

I remember as well - I was a little girl, and watched my mom sitting on the couch watching the news, with tears streaming silently down her face. It was the first time I saw her cry, and I couldn't understand how you could be so sad about someone dying that you didn't even know, how you could connect that way with a stranger.

Funny, the lessons life teaches us.
