Well there may be 6 more weeks of winter left but right now it feels like spring up here in Vermont I have bad case of cabin fever only thing keeping me here is the preparation for Valentines day. But soon as the big day is over I am headed to the mountains to get everything ready for boiling syrup.

Wiarton Willie is a muuuuch better groundhog. We LOVE Willie... spring is just around the corner according to that most intelligent of prognosticating animals. ;)

Hey!

There is only ONE Phil!

He's the man, er...Groundhog! He even has a MOVIE about him!
(love that movie, must have seen it a hundred times...)
It's amazing how that town changes for that little guy...

oh sure...

and if "Phil the Groundhawg" was a weatherman/woman..we'd probably fire a cannon at him/her/it.
Believe this or not, I've got a groundhog living someplace around here (seen him/her/it lottsa times) and we're in the city, backyard backs onto a Tim Hortons drivethru!!
Groundhogs are stupid...how come they command so much love and affection (sometimes I wish I was a groundhawg in my dreams)

I can think of a couple of ground hogs who are not so "stupid"... life of leisure, but for one day a year... where, on occasion, they recieve death threats... now that's stupid! ;)

Nah... Mikey... I'd want to deal with important stuff... like freeing the beleaguered groundhogs of the world. ;)

Just say no to politics... been there done that in another life. :hammer:

I'll debate the 'stupid' part...

I have a Groundhog (referred to as Hoggie by my 3 year old) who lived under our old Sears steel shed in the back yard for many moons. Yup, dug his hole/doorway in the back as to not be a problem to us. When we moved the old shed (via flatbed) to my Brother In Law's campground, we replaced it with a NEW 16X20 wood shed - complete with a ramp for the tractor. Put down a foundation, with EP Henry retaining wall and all.
WELL...'Hoggie' moved himself right back under the new shed. He/She found that he could tunnel in through the side, between the floor beams, and build a nice home in the 3/4 crushed stone foundation. He is a strong little guy - he has moved some good amount of stone to increase his doorway. So far, he has not done anything to disturb the foundation, so I let him be. We saw him last fall, before it got cold, gathering whatever Groundhogs gather and run under the new shed...

Smart "Hoggie". :) But then I think most animals are pretty smart... with more sense than humans. :)
