A lot of our plant brokers that we buy "8 inch" plants from get their plant stock from Florida where the majority is sent in the black ribbed 2 gallon pots. Vast America (in Dallas) is the only vendor I know that has pot covers in 2 different sizes; 8" Azailia and 2 Gallon. I have been trying to convince other pot cover importers from China to offer a 2 Gallon size, but I am wondering is this only applies to some of us southern folks getting stock from Florida.

So, the questions is, what size are other florists buying for green (not blooming) plants???

Thanks, Clay

2 gallon pot fits fine in our 8" pot covers with pieces of styrofoam to wedge the gap, cover in moss.....Never had any problems....

We sell a lot of green plants, and I have trouble with the in between size as well. It seems that peace lily's can be prone to coming in that size. I have only come across one wholesaler that sells that baskets in that size and then only occassionally. I much prefer them(covers) in that 2 gallon size, but very hard to get, here anyway.

I never really realized there was a big diffference between inches or gallon containers - always just chalked it up to different growers. We do as Lori, with the styro etc to shore up the plant so it's not wobbly in the container. Styro peanuts work well for that, as well as bits of green styro leftover from other projects.

I have had problems with poinsettias being in a 7" pot. They looked dwarfed in an 8" cover and didn't fit into a 6" cover, but never had problems with green plants..

It's not a huge problem, and you can always shore them up, but there is a missing size in the baskets. I think Clay has a good point about finding a vendor for this. More and more plants come in this size, and it would be nice to drop and go.

We use 8" standard and 8" azalea baskets, the azalea basket are not as tall and work well for pionsettias and anything in a short 8" pot
The Pots Co. out of Miami has a great selection of baskets.

You are getting exactly what I am getting here in the Midwest.

BTW, I like those Vast Guys. In fact my Vast rep and I have several mutual flower shop customers so we coordinate basket sales for those shops. He asks me what size pot I am growing plants in so that he can recommend the right size basket for the plant. works great.

You need an 8 inch Azalea sized pot cover.

Joe

Well then I guess we have more the 2 gallon pot covers here. Those azalea baskets are hard to find.
