Yesterday we received an order from 1-800 flowers. We drove around for an hour looking for the house and couldn't find the street. We called 1-800- flowers while we drove around another small town with the same zip code, (yes, we're strange up here...) and still couldn't find it. Meanwhile 1-800 said that they couldn't find the order without the order number, (which I left at the store,) because it was a Blooms Today order. She said she didn't understand it herself, but without the order number, she couldn't help me. Okay... they sent it through their wire service but they couldn't track it because it came from Blooms Today???? This should have been my first red flag for this order!

After another hour, (I had no plans for the night and was persistent...) I called Blooms Today and they said that they would try to call me back with a phone number as the order did not have one. They didn't call back (Flag 2)

When I got home with the bouquet and balloon in tow, I went online and relayed this all to Bloomnet through the on-line wire service.

This morning when I got to the shop there was a note that possibly they gave us the wrong town and that here was the phone number. There was no number listed. They also said that the recipient might pick it up instead. (Flag 3)

I sent a wire back that they didn't include the phone number and I got a rude note back that they did. (Flag 4) So I wired back that I must be very "special" as I couldn't see it anywhere on the wire. I reminded them that if the recipient was picking it up, we close at 5:30.

I got no phone number after that wire either. (Flag 5)

So a half hour ago on my lunch break, (okay... I was sipping a Pepsi and enjoying the satisfaction of completing a huge funeral order...) anyway, I wired that no recipient had walked in and please remember that we are closing at 5:30 p.m.

I now got a wire WITH the recipient's phone number. Amazing...

However, no answer and no answering machine. I give up. (Flag 6) Maybe I should give up floristry for playing Capture the Flag!!!!

mistake #1 - taking the order without a phone number. In the past two weeks, I have made customers go home and call with a phone number before we would attempt to send it out.
mistake #2 - The minute they said Blooms Today.... eat the flowers, reuse the balloon...take them home. Cancel/reject the order..
And Rod (below) is right...low ball 800F orders not accepted

repeat after me..... NO, No, NO I will not take an order from Blooms Today

Or we can make you WRITE it with that magic quill from Professor Umbridge :)

I was giggling reading this post....I think we've all had these kinds of stories, and been SO determined to be the good florist, that we "sometimes" forget to be rational, about whom we've delivered for, and WHY we've gone to such lengths to be successful AT FILLING THE ORDER AT any cost!!

Blooms Today pretty much suck. Sounds like you had quite an experience with no reward. When I come across unfamiliar streets, I'll go the US Postal Service website to confirm the address exists. You did mention that your area is "strange", so I'm not sure if the USPS gives full coverage to your neck of the woods.

BLOOMS TODAY SUX OUT LOUD!!

I never, ever fill for them, unless I don't know it because they are cloaked by 800...I have caught a few being sent through 800 instead of blooms today....I hate, hate, hate them with a kind of passion you only read about in trasy novels..

Sorry you had such a hard time with this...I feel for you..

So inform me, a simple man.......

Why would you belong to Bloomnet???

It seems that you can join 1 of 3 ways:
1. Send me anything.....an order is an order!..... Duh, which way to their bank?
2. Florist to florist only: (of which Blooms Today is one) still feeding the monster!
3. Send only:..... Hey! I'm part of the problem!

Somehow not a good set of choices yet!

Curious as to rational shops choosing one of these?

Keith.

PS. Be gentle on me, I am straddling some fences.

Who knows the future beside Kreskin???

Blooms today is the WORST--- I'm Blooment and I really can't stand taking the orders when they come from Blooms Today. It amazes me more, though, that consumers think that Blooms Today is a stinking flower shop when they are just an order gatherer!!!!!! Ahhhhh!!!!!!!! It amazes me.

It should not amaze you! They think that way because for years florists have helped BloomsToday deceive consumers by filling their orders. How is a consumer to know? When they place an order a "florist" delivers it...

Yesterday we received an order from 1-800 flowers. We drove around for an hour looking for the house and couldn't find the street.

Curious- Why would you even leave the store with flowers without knowing where you are going ? Unless of course it was on map. What type of technology if any do you use ? Do you have a computer at your store ? To put this blame 100% on the sending florist regardless of who it is, based on what you have stated is what I feel wrong. If you don't have any technology tools, get some. It really does prevent countless hours of frustration and in addition can save you money. Again, I am in no way shape form or fashion supporting Blooms Today by my statement.
