The Company attributed the increase in revenues during the quarter primarily to a strong contribution from its recent acquisitions, particularly in its Food, Wine and Gift Basket category.
Though not specifically stated, looks like flower sales were up about 6-7%. Part of that rise could be the growth in Retail/Fulfillment which was up more than $10M comparing the same 6 month period in 2004.

Overall, specialty gifts represented approximately 70 percent of total revenues during the quarter compared with approximately 66 percent in the prior year period while floral gifts represented approximately 30 percent of total revenues compared with 34 percent in the prior year period.
With total quartley sales at $277.8 million, then floral gifts sales were $83M. Compare that with FTD's quarter at $109M total and approx. $68.7M in florist delivered products.

During the fiscal second quarter, the Company attracted 1.3 million new customers, 57 percent of whom, or 760,000, came to the Company online. These customers were attracted to the Company's "Your Florist of Choice(sm)" marketing message as well as its expanded food, wine and gift basket offerings
With only 30% of sales being delivered through florists, makes me wince just to read that. :/

Earnings did not met Wall Street's expectations so the stock is trading down slightly.

Correct me if I'm wrong....

but isn't 1-800 really playing with the numbers here. They indicated that most of this growth was because of the acquistions. I had not heard of Cheryl & Co or Hearth and Plow or the wine company before they became part of 1-800. If they really wanted to compare apples to apples, you would get the number comprison of quarter to quarter before acquistion also. Most of their growth is because they have now included the revenues from these new companies.

Growth in most business in today's economy seems to be from mergers and acquistions. The one area that should concern florists the most is that their revenues from floral gifts dropped 4% from last year at the same time. That's the same amount of down percentage FTD also reported.

The telling figure is the paltry 30% sales volume in flowers. Given their statement that growth was attributed to is "florist of choise" promotion.

To think back when ALL their sales were floral related?

Why anybody would sleep with these people is beyond comprension.

How anybody could plan anything long term flower wise with these people is very difficult ti invision. By all accounts. the florist aspect is destined to shrink further as a % of their business.

Outside suckering some very foolish florist as a revenue stream. What can they really offer anyone. Watering the gravy even more to pass the decrease arround to the same saps FTD is doing it to?

I read nothing to give me reason to think florists intrests are even considered. If they ever were.
