Today Oct. 15th
5:00am Sound asleep!
5:05am I woke up and saw my husband grabbing the shotgun and going down the hall saying he heard something and he looks very serious. My dog who barks at everything is not making even a peep or moving a muscle.
5:10am My husband comes back and says the glass on the front door is shattered.
5:15am We're checking it out and see a rock was throw through the door.
5:20am I call the police from the office and on the way out of the office I notice the money is gone. Not my digital camera and checkbooks or anything else.
5:30am The police arrive and take pics and ask questions and do all the police stuff they do.
5:45-6:15am Clean it all up. Ugh!
6:20am Go get McDonald's breakfast for us and make coffee.
7:30am Call Insurance Co. Says the adjuster will call very soon.
8:00am Call Glass co. happens to be across the street from the store.
9:00am Call Lock & Key Co. as they also got a key to the store that was in cash drawer. Happens to be right up the street.
9:10am Glass Co. starts to fix door. Lock & Key guy is on his way over.
9:25am Blowing up balloons, getting today's ready for delivery, drinking coffee.

A day in the life!!!

I am very happy Woodstock did not bark as who knows what might have happened if Neal caught someone in the process. I know for a fact Neal would have shot the gun if necessary and I know for a fact I would have freaked out.

Too weird - the only other time we were ever robbed it was also Sweetest day time.

So glad to hear everyone is OK! Sounds like someone was looking out for you :)

I love your "let's fix this immediately and move on" attitude! Don't dwell on problems, fix them!

You rock, Patty - Stay safe

Ryan

Happened to my folks a couple of years back , they grew all their own cropsa nd raised enough turkeys , chicken ducks geese pig and sheep so that they didn't have to buy at stores. Anyway the only way into the basement was from the outside and they have 4 large freezers to hold all that they produced , one night they were awoke by the dog and heard someone in the basement, dad has a heart condition so he called the RCMP in Clarenville 50 miles away , the phone was answered in Gander 150 miles away , the cop told him that would be over 1 hour before someone could get there to help , dad told the cop the he had a 30/30 and a 12 gauge in the house and was promptly informed that if he confronted the burglars with that he would be charged with assault with a deadly weapon and if he happened to shoot one of these maggots and they died it would be 1st degree murder. They left after cleaning out most of one years production of food. We knew within 1 day who it was and told the police who wouldn't even take finger prints , nothing was done. The ringleader got his one night when my brother caught him alone.

Thank God everyone is ok Patty and even more thanks go to not having to use a gun...

Campbells has been robbed twice. It's a pain, but in the end it's just stuff. I'm glad we don't have guns.

how would you like to wait 15 hours for a cop

Three years ago, i went to take our dog out at 6.30 am ,got in the parking lot and looked back only to see the door of my husbands butcher shop wide open, ran upstairs and got him outta bed, went back down called o.p.p. to report the breakin and theft of my caravan. They said someone would be right over , dont touch anything, ok. called at 8 am said there was a accident and they would be tied up for a couple hours. ok. Now im starting to get pissed, it is now 7pm called once again , this time talked to a officer that i know and was then told that my van wasn't even listed as being stolen, thank you so much, finally got a ident team here , they took all the scales, steaks, perch etc what ever was handy to get their hands on ,also the van was full of tools and golf clubs etc as we had just recently moved here. But anyways we were told these officers were going to be reprimanded for not getting here at all or even calling, boy did they ever get it, 2 hours off with out pay.The next time they tried to berak in here they responded in less than 10 mintues, seems i'm listed as a troublemaker, but then why not , we were held here , couldn't leave,or clean up till photos and finger prints were taking.Yes i agree a gun sure sounds nice at times like that, now we have Molly and she is one hell of a watch dog. and fenced in the whole property and gates are locked at night , next thing we are going to do is attach razor wire on the top of the fence as our police coverage here is almost non existant. Joanne

Joanne, I understand your frustration. I lived in Forest for several years. While the O.P.P. was stationed there, it was still a LOOOOOOng wait for response on occasion. I do know they were stretched pretty thinly across Lambton County... couple that with the incidents at Stoney Point and hurry up and wait was part of the equation. I'm glad you have Molly... way better than a gun. :)

What a day

Patty, Glad to hear you are O.K. You might want to consider an alarm system with signs posted in the front of your building letting criminals know your place is protected.

It is strange your dog didn't awaken and respond with the naturally superior canine sense of hearing?

Kudos to your brave husband. Many victims are no longer with us today because they did not have the tools (weapon) to protect themselves against evil people.

Victoria......

if someone was threatening to kill your daughter...you would NOT SHOOT??
Someone touches one of my loved ones......endangering their lives.....it's their last act on this planet....
It's my promise when I bring offspring into the world.....IF I CATCH YOU hurting my family...you're gonna bleed...BADLY.

glad you guys are ok

Patty, so glad you guys are ok.next time, shoot, dig a hole, bury them and call it a day.So much for the "laws" that "protect" us. Again so glad to hear you are ok.............S

So sorry Patty

I'm so sorry to hear that something (not worthy of being called a someone) did this to you. I know the chances aren't good but I hope they find them!

I agree with Frank that a good alarm system might be worth the investment. Even if you don't have it set to call the police, but at least blare a loud siren, enough to send them running scared.

Ryan is right, you've got the best "and life goes on" attitude!! :)

This whole experience has reinforced for me that local businesses are the best. The glass was replaced within an hour of when I got ahold of them on the phone this morning. The locks were replaced right after that. Both cost a lot less than I had expected. The security place, also a nearby neighboring business that's been doing railings of all sorts since before I was born, same owner, came within 3 and 1/2 hours and is putting a temporary security gate/door up Monday and meeting Tuesday to discuss and decide what kind of security gate to install. We're getting the front foor and two adjacent side windows all covered with a decorative gate with small portion stationary on the sides. This way if a rock gets thrown through it no one can fit through the small holes anyway. Also if the lock on the door gets tampered with and they get the door open, still no one can get through the security gate/door. He's giving me a neighborhood business friendly price, believe me!

I found out the dog is useless (don't tell him I said that - I really don't mean it), Neal wants a better gun, crooks can be careful (see *note* below), and life in a florist stops for nothing, that is evident from our wonderful Florida florist friends who weathered the horrible hurricanes and bounced back so incredibly. This was a little boo boo needing a band-aid compared to their experience.

*Note*= The guy hopped over the counter, went around the corner and grabbed the money drawer without dropping so much as a penny, ran down the hall past the counter, had to slide open a baby (dog) gate and through a curtain and around the front by the cooler and back out the hole in the glass door. -- The counter had a dish garden and terrarium ready for delivery sitting in the way a bit and other misc. items and they were just barely moved. He actually slid open the gate instead of breaking through it, the curtain is on a tension rod and falls easily, but didn't, there was gobs and gobs of buckets of flowers sitting everywhere between the cooler and the front door because of Sweetest Day, just like Val. Day. There was a little bit of limonium on the floor that he must have ran into a bit, all the rest of the flowers he ran through and by are 100% in tact. Not one bucket spilled.

I never mentioned the funny part. The first time Neal went into the hallway with the gun he was completely naked. Now that might have scared the guy away, right? lol I know!!! - TOO MUCH INFORMATION. LOL

You guys are the best!!! I love this place!!!:ghug:

I'm glad to hear no one was hurt.

It's unfortunate that there is such slime out there!! You have a great attitude. I'm glad you did'nt have to use the gun, but if you had, that slime deserved it!!

sO sorry to hear of your break in . I have been concerned about that same situation since i opened the shop. Funny I was never afraid when I worked in the Psych. Ward!
anyway our only "stealing" incident happened last year. An elderly lady came in and ordered a corsage to pick up the next day. She left me her name and phone number. When she came to pick it up I wnet behind the counter to ring her up and she grabbed it and ran for the door. I was so surprised I ran after her into the parking lot and (being not QUITE that elderly) got to her car first where I leaned on her car door so she couldn't get in. The two of us stood in the parking lot yelling til I finally realized that the only thing I could do was beat her up --BAD Publicity for the shop! So I let her go. When our neighborhood police officer came by I laughingly mentioned it to him- and said he would be happy to go have a talk with her since she had been so kind as to leave her number- talk about dumb crooks! All that entertainment for $15!

Mike I don't own a gun. Never have, never will...

Guns and stores are not a good match. We have a good security system and rely on that. *laughs* We have an extra little insurance, the guy that owns the business next to us has 'asked' that no break-ins happen on our block and apparently his opinions mean something because since he's come back to town the break-ins in our area have abruptly stopped.
