I have a bride asking me for a mauve rose. She has been a bit of a color nightmare already, looking at all shades of pinks and burgundies in the consultation. I am planning on having her choose her own rose (so she picked the color!)

Anyway, I have a few varieties in mind but am having problems with this one.

As a thanks in advance, I want to show you the coolest rose we've been using in a few weddings lately. Amalia, red on the outside, pink on the inside. Not sure who else is growing this beauty but it's here in Oregon! I think you have to search on the site's search page. Enter Amalia or sort by "unusual" color.

Any varieties you can think of will help immensely. Thanks so much for your help!

IMO mauve is a bluish pink. We're using Faith this weekend and the paleness of the mauve is georgeous.

For something darker, try a rose in the lavender family. They're closest to the colors of mauve lisianthus.

Added: The Cool Waters from Peterkot Roses look mauve to me, but it could just be my monitor. ;) :)

I second that on the Eufloria roses and the good thing is that Greenleaf in Portland can get those for you. You have to have your order in by Thursday at the latest since that's when they call it in to have it trucked up. Can't think of anyone rose in particular that would be maueve, but the gals have the Eufloria book with the colors that they can reference. They open up so pretty but are a bit smaller in size. Ask about hypnose and see what they think.

Thanks so much ladies!

Cool Water was my first suggestion... it's one of my favs. Nope, not the right color. Too lavender. (I thought it perfectly fit what she was asking for.)

We have used Hypnose before. Very cool antique color. Maybe I'll try suggesting that.

She e-mailed me that she liked Charming Unique from Esmeralda's site, but that's kind of a dusty pinkish-peach, IMO. Please, just shoot me now!

We NEVER have bridezillas. She's not either, really, just a little difficult in the color department.

Thanks again for your suggestions!

What grower is this from? I haven't seen it before and it looks great. Couldn't find a link online... I'll call my wholesalers in the AM and ask them too.

Thanks again for the suggestions with PICS! Talk about above and beyond!:blowkiss:

I still feel that in no way do brides appreciate what lengths we go to for them, to make them happy.

Just a suggestion, if she chose Charming Unique, I'd just save yourself the stress and go with that color. To me, I agree it is a dusty pink. However, I could see with the bicolors on the fully open rose what she means.

Whenever I have a bride that is very picky about color, I send her to Sierra Flower Finder and let her spend the hours looking. If she chooses the wrong flower, than it is no one's fault but her own. She may also have a different idea of what mauve is. Did she bring a color sample?

Michelle,
We had Charming Unique in last weekend for a wedding that wanted mauve. It is a great looking Mauvy/dusty pink rose.

If that's what she likes, order it in & let her look. It will work well for you. big headed. slow to open though.

Thanks for the reassurances about charming unique. :yourock: Maybe I will just go with it. They aren't my favorite rose, so maybe that's why I'm worrying. I looked at a bundled bunch the other day and saw more peach than mauve, but I haven't seen them open recently. They do look different in the open photos on the website.

This is for a destination wedding an hour away from us. The bride is 3 hours away, so she won't be in to look anytime prior.

Oh well, in my experience, if they pick it out they always love it in the end, even if I think it was a wretched look.

Thanks again for the advice!

The big key here when delivering is paste a BIG smile on your face and say WOW! Your bouquet is gorgeous, you picked JUST the right combination!

They will love it, guaranteed.

It really doesn't matter if you like it or not.

So TRUE!

LOL, my daughter (age 9) has begun to help me deliver a few select weddings. Her rule (which she repeats right when we are leaving the van) is that she is only allowed to say one thing unless she is directly addressed:

Wow, you look so beautiful! (To the bride.)

She (my daughter) loves this and is amazed how happy it makes people. And you're right, I always tell the bride how she chose a wonderful combination and the perfect bouquet for her. And it's always true.

Don't know, but I may be in a little late on this thread but someone early on mentioned "Cool Water"....It is most definately a true mauve color.

Last year did an all lavender military wedding at the Dallas Arboretum.

Bride was precious, told me lavender, and I didn't see her again till day of wedding. It was great!!!

However, I needed an addtl. bunch of roses at the last minute, called all the reg. wholesalers no lavenders. Than I called a new wholesaler, he said yeah we got um, so hubby runs over to get them. I cryed when I saw the color...
COOL WATER is most definatlley MAUVE.

I think this is what your looking for.

good luck!

I've used charming unique for everything from 'antique pink' & 'soft pink' to 'mauve.' Depends on what the bride considers 'mauve.' Depending on where she got the bridesmaids' dresses, you may be able to look online for the dress color (if she didn't give you a sample.) If she was looking at pinks to burgundies during the consult, I'd be cool water will be too purple for her. Here's the link for sierra flower finder--use it all the time. http://sierraflowerfinder.com/sys_browse.asp?TYP=9
