Heads-up to our FC members:

We're experimenting with a few AdSense units, mostly for fun but also to see if we can boost revenue a bit. We will endeavour to make sure that the ads aren't full of FTD/TF/Pro/800/OG ads ... but please understand this is early in the process. If it's too much of a hassle, we'll just cancel the AdSense stuff.

Please don't click on OG ads out of spite or to create revenue for FC. It's not kosher, and that's not how we want to make $$. If you do see a relevant ad, please click on it and learn about what's being offered.

All joking aside - All I keep seeing are the 800TFTD/Pro/FToday ads. However....when I clicked on the arcade section, the ads changed to related gaming ads.

I am going to try the casino page and then the chat page to see what comes up.

Keep you posted.

Follow-up: I've blocked a lot of the major players, but it takes a few hours for those blocks to take effect. I'll keep on it in the meantime and block new ones as I find them.

That's the beauty of contextual ads - they change based on the content of the page. Ideally, we'll see tech related ads in the tech section, vehicle in the delivery area, etc.

We'll see what happens ... since Google can't see the majority of the site it might just be a pointless exercise.

sure enough - when I went to the casino section.....the ads changed to online casinos......the chat page stayed the same.

I don't think the AdSense is all that bad.......however speaking for me......I almost NEVER click on any ad.......unless it is specfic - like one of Randy's e-mail blasts that he does.

But to see just a small adsense type advertisement - they'd lose money if they depended on me to click.

I don't understand. The target market for those ads are for people wanting to buy flowers, none of us here who see the ads wants to by flowers. How are you going to make money off of that? I'm confused. :)

If you want to make money, put up adult themed ads and let NavyBrat and Ricky send your kids to college. ;)

Daz,

As we progress, fewer of the ads are selling flowers.

Also, remember there are sections of the site that attract a large non-florist audience, and some of them may be looking for flowers.

I've blocked a lot of the recognizable OGs, and continue to block more as I see them. If I see poorly targeted local florist ads I'll block them as well, mostly as a mercy to the florist.

Update: I will be running some tests over the next couple of days. As part of that testing, I have removed the list of filtered sites.

We'll have another update in a few days.
