Got an email from a reverend mac saying he wanted to order 20 sympathy crosses, about $3,000. He wanted a discount so I told him, ok 10%--but what is it that you want these for?

He said he will be sending them to Africa, and shipping instructions will follow:

Right.

I politely suggested that he contact someone else.

Boy, can't get anything by you!!!! You replied a lot more politely than would have I........

Funny, I had a guy send me an email by a sim. name. Rev. Roger a couple days ago. This was through our web site. Apple Mail quarantines these bogus messages pretty well.

Do these frauds ACTUALLY get folks to comply??? I guess it's called Phishing for a reason...

Just need a GOOD FAITH DEPOSIT from YOU!

I imagine, had your conversation continued, the caller would've went on to say that, he works on donations and in order for you to be privy to such a large order, he would need you to send him a GOOD FAITH DEPOSIT wired to his bank in Nigeria.

After which, he would be able to send you 20 FedEx Pick up labels as his Church would be paying for all the shipping charges.

I haven't had a SCAMMER try to play me for a few years now, but when I do get them, I love to turn the tables and PLAY WITH THEIR HEADS.

Played one PLAYER after he ordered flowers and fruit and foliage and stuffed animals and candy, all going to ONE SPECIAL LADY.

Despite the fact that, the credit card transaction was APPROVED, the order was just TOO GOOD to BE TRUE!

Got the issuing bank's security department through our credit card processor and called them for further verification.

YES, it was a FRAUD, and they would notify their customer while closing the compromised account.

So the guy calls us the next day to complain that, she never got his gifts. I told him we had delivered everything as he requested and left it all by her front door since she wasn't at home. I told him to call her back and check.

Five minutes later, he was back on the phone telling me that, he spoke to her again, and she said she never got anything.

OH, that's too bad, I said! Appears to me that, SOMEONE MUST'VE STOLEN ALL THE GIFTS YOU SENT HER! Really nothing else I can help you with. Suggest you call your credit card company and report the theft and have your girlfriend report it to the Police.

Oh, you should have played along...He was going to call you back and say that his "shipping company" doesn't use Visa or Mastercard and could you please get some front money for him from your bank...and on and on..........He already did this routine in Maine....I know there is a thread somewhere !!

Dang, didn't you want to play today??

Yeah, "The Reverend" has been trying this on the world over for at least a year now, I wonder if anyone has been stupid enough to get sucked in. First time I had his request for dozens and dozens of roses first thing I did was call the CC companies suspicious transaction line.

TOTO you WILL love THIS site I THINK:

The dozen and dozen of roses thing happened in this area. Wanted us to tie 20 dollar bills to each rose. Wanted to use Amx card. He wanted to give me card on the phone and have someone pick up the roses. I told him to send me the 20's and just pay me cash and I would have it ready. He hung up.

He also called the other shop in town. No go there either. However he did get a older lady from 2 towns over for $3000.00. Credit card was stolen. She lost out money and product.

A few days later, Amx called and asked had we encountered anything like this. They were trying to help locate the man. I did have a cell number ( caller ID ). But it was stolen also.

They make it sound too good to be true. And it is.

I have a few emails from a rev kim wanting 100 dozens of roses going to Ghanna Africa.

I gave him the prices and told him the payment methods

Cash, check with a 10 day hold and no delivery even set up before it cleared, MC, VISA, AMEX with in-store signature and photo copy of ID and signature upon delivery with proof of ID and Phone photo taken, or Western union.

He emailed back with a shipping compnay he would like to use and have me set up the delivery.

I emailed him back asking before I set up anything shipping or order, I needed payment information and payment in full...I am waiting to see what his reply is....I am sure this is a scam...and have no intentions of following through with any transaction, but figured I could play with him a bit....I have time..

Lorri, with all of the scams going around, any small retailer that sends anything to Africa is taking a huge risk. It may be overkill but we don't take any order for anything from Africa. I don't need the headaches

I am with you on that front. My demands for the order are really not ones that can be met from someone far away. I will assume he will pass as soon as he realizes I am playing with him...The order is bizarre to say the least and bizarre is usually not good...

My business partner got the same e-mail from Reverend such and such for the same 100 dozen red roses. I begged her to keep it and ask for his tax exempt form so that we could "donate" the items to him and really get him going but she deleted it. Awh Shucks.....

He gives up real easy when confronted with your terms on payment and not his...

This thread is great and I have to say I had the day off and spent a crazy amount of time on that 419 site! I only read 2 of the stories, too. :>

The Rev is in Orange County CA

Just recieved this one this morning

Hello sir

REV MAC WILLSON

Reply---......sorry only accpet pre payment in cash at the shop for this size order.

Casket sprays?! How stupid....are they planning ahead for an earthquake, flood, fire, movie set?

Rev Mac really gets around! The good Rev (Willson) wanted 20 casket sprays last week and another 15 today! Doesn't sound like any Rev I want to meet....

"We only accept Canadian cash and then only after the RCMP clears it for counterfeit bills" :lol

Some of you may think this is harsh, but I really have no sympathy for the florist who got caught out. This scam has been going for at least a year, the first time I got this email (about a year ago) I hadn't heard of it yet, so even though I thought it was too good to be true I played along until I got credit card details - he gave me 3 different ones to spread the payment over. Now this is a big red flag, anyone who reads the info the CC companies sends out would know this - so straight away I rang the suspicious transaction line to get authorization, didn't even bother putting it thru my machine. You've got to be vigilant, all the signs are there that this is a fraudulant order.

Personally, I wouldn't want to go to his church. High mortality there. :corky
