I'm looking for some books to read on the industry.
Really relevant stuff like care and handling, design techniques. I've read enough about shop management. Now, I'm really itching to design.

All you FCers have inspired me!
I was looking at the AIFD Guide to Floral Design. It's $100 plus shipping.
Does anyone have this guide? Is it worth it in your opinion?
I know the absolute basics and with more practice I'm sure I could do well, but I'd love all the tips and stuff that I didn't learn at school, that you all seem to know!

Anyone have a book that they absolutely loved?

It is required study for our Maine Masters Certification.
I have both volumes, the first printing and the second printing.
The diagrams are wonderful.....
"dictionary" great for "educating the public"...... as a speaker (commentator) at our Fryeburg Fair Public Show....it has been invaluable.
Some of it is "fluff" for higher end shops and large venue/wedding/event florists (IMHO) but I'm small town.
In combination with Florists' Review "Design School"......worthy for indepth study of design and the understanding of elements and principles of floral design.

Chantelle - I can answer your question for you.....the AIFD guide to Terms, Techniques, and Traditions IS WORTH EVERY PENNY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As far as books that I always love........Even though they are now out of print, search amazon, ebay and other online sellers for any and all back issues of PFD. It was published by AFS before they merged with Teleflora.

Other books are the Profil series by Klaus Wagner ( I love the European textural styles )

Yes, the AIFD guide is great.
But, it's not casual reading. It is very cut and dry with massive amounts of information and terminology.
The AIFD online classes start tomorrow. I am privileged to be one of their on line instructors. I will be involved with the first class offered, the Introduction to Floral Design Class. You must have the Guide Book as a text book for the series of classes.

When I teach at my local community college, I use Hitomi Gilliam's and John Haines', "Fundamentals Of Floral Design". It is an absolutely fabulous text book. Easy to understand and follow along. You can get it from Hitomi directly, or Florist Review, or I bet used on Amazon.
In my opinion, this is the best and easiest book to learn from.

not available at Amazon, Ebay nor Barnes and Noble.......dang...

Try the Florist Review Bookstore

I have it and I love it. Be sure to get the color wheel as well.
I was lucky, it was gifted to me. One of the nicest gifts I ever got!

The interflora books are really comprehensive and i found them really useful in the beginning. There is a basic guide and then an advanced guide with step by steps.

Could not comment on aifd as i have never seen it.
