Hi everyone I was looking at an interesting site today and came across this. I was just wondering to the AIFD people how do you feel about Preston Baily and were you at the symposium? if so please fill me in... I as a free lance love his work. But not sure If you feel as if he is a good rep to the industry. Thanks ~Tracy P.S ( I don't want to open any can of worms but I was just wondering)

Celebrity floral designer Preston Bailey wowed particpicants at the American Institute of Floral Designers’ (AIFD) 2007 Symposium in Palm Desert, California. The four-day event, July 7-11, brought designers together with some of the major planets and rising stars in their craft, inciting florists to bend the rules and, when the occasion calls for it, to build five foot pineapples out of sunflowers.
AIFD, established in 1965 and with nearly 1,300 members worldwide, is a non-profit organization dedicated to extending the boundaries of floristry through education. Congrats to the organizers of this year’s symposium, and special thanks to Eric Grammer.

I am not his biggest fan. I dont like the way he designs. Nothing I can remember seeing has any stems-i.e.he is just using the flower head and gluing it to a construction of some sort. He could be using any other material to decorate like mirrors, glitter, ribbon, fabric, etc, but since he chose flowers it makes him a floral designer. The large lion, pineapple, elephant I have seen him do-its like all of his wedding decorating-he is just taking a mass of flowers and covering it.
Does this make sense?

I find that the stuff Preston does is OK. It is stuff that most anyone can do not anything that is avante garde or anything. he is just a master at marketing himself and has hobnobbed with the right people to get ahead and make a name for himself...

No matter if you like the guy or what he does, he does have guts. He was not shy during his program and used the F word several times. Did it bother me? NO

I was fascinated with one of his projects where he hung hundreds of concave lucite panels filled with water and flowers to cover an enormous ceiling. Each panel was huge and must have weighed 500 lbs. filled with water. I'm sorry, but that definetily takes some guts (and a great engineer).

He does flowers in the multi-millions, you've got to give him some credit.
I only wish he showed more than a slide show. I enjoyed the slides but was hoping for more.

He's given me an inspiration or two. For that, I respect him and I was happy to listen to him talk. F words and all.
