2" OF SNOW CRIPPLES THE SOUTH!

Well some of these southerners think it.
Usually, just the threat of snow sends the weathermen and grocery stores into a tizzy.

i am so over snow this year. i've had just about enough. i feel bad for my delivery man because countless people don't shovel and he has to trudge his way through the drifts hoping the arrangements make it in good shape.

Don't put away the winter gear yet, Environment Canada climatologist says

By Brian Pardoe, The Canadian Press

TORONTO - Get ready for more shovelling and pushing and plowing.

Environment Canada is warning there'll be no rush to spring from a winter the agency's senior climatologist says was "almost like a slap in the face."

What has been a colder and snowier winter than normal in most of the country is expected to continue for March, David Phillips said Sunday as he examined the latest Environment Canada maps with new data and an outlook for the coming months.

"Nature's not going to try to make amends here with this spring period given the fact that we've had a long and, in many cases, a difficult winter," Phillips said in an interview.

"In many ways, I think, the weather has been like the economy - there's no good news here."

Phillips said only parts of Atlantic Canada have escaped the colder conditions so far this winter.

On the other hand, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have suffered the most, with Phillips noting daily records were set for cold temperatures, and that one day all of Manitoba was under a wind-chill warning.

"If there's one area that truly I would really feel sorry for, it would be the people in Saskatchewan," Phillips said.

"Regina, for example, got below -40 on at least two occasions. They had probably 60 days in the winter where they had temperatures below -30."

It was not, by far, the coldest winter on record there. It was, however, the coldest December in 30 to 40 years, and the coldest winter in 14 years in Saskatchewan.

In the far west, Phillips said it has not only been colder than normal but the issue there has been the amount of snow.

As for Ontario and Quebec, it has only been a little colder than normal.

The colder winter has been caused by a cooling system over the Pacific Ocean called "La Nina," Phillips said.

Some Canadians are finding it tougher to take the cold weather because for the last several years their winters have been on the warmer side, Phillips

"That's why this is almost like a slap in the face for us."

While Canadians might not want to hear that spring weather will take its time arriving, Phillips said that may not be such a bad thing.

With the amount of snow that has fallen, a quick spring with lots of rain could create flooding problems in many areas.

And looking further ahead, while the forecast is just preliminary, Phillips said it appears temperatures in most areas from northern Saskatchewan east in April to June could be above normal.

Phillips said that could change, but at the moment "that's what our best models are telling us right now."

He added that Environment Canada's projections for the winter were accurate.
