I’ve been checking out the site for about a week and I’m impressed with what I have seen. I guess it is time for an introduction. I started an event floral business 2 years ago: www.mocharose.com My sales are 90% wedding based and it is also where my passion lies. The business is currently home based as I work out of our loft that I have converted into a design studio. My business has grown rapidly in the past few months and with the events we are booking for 2008, I feel confident enough to buy a storefront in March of next year.
I plan to take on a different spin than the traditional flower shop. I have complete respect for anyone who runs a full service shop, but the market here is saturated and it is not the angle I have envisioned for our business. Our business will take on two angles. One will be event design where clients come to us to design their entire wedding, corporate function or party down to linens, favors and floral arrangements. The second angle is the “flower market” similar to those of LA, NYC and Seattle where we cater to customers who’d prefer to arrange their own cut flowers and want a hands on approach. We will not offer premade designs, funerals, and wire services. I know it is a modern approach and it may be risky. With our current bookings for events, I hope that this portion of the business will support the market aspect while it develops.
I’m very interested to see if there are any other business owners that have taken on a similar approach. I’m also open to opinions from those that run a traditional shop. I already love this board and hope to continue to gain information from reading your posts. Thanks!
