Another reason NOT to be FTD anymore.....

so, I thought, maybe I shouldn't be so harsh with the organization that we've been members of for eons,and ease up a little on the rhetoric!
I thought wrong......had an order for Saskatchewan, nice sized order $136.95, town didn't have a member shop, so, off to Domestic Retrans I went...they are SUPPOSED to find a shop,and get the order filled, in whatever manner payment is required...get it done!
4 hours later, message comes back, FTD can't "find" an operating Merc in the town, so it was rejected!! Boy, they are such "heroes"......I guess MOST of us couldn't figure out that there wasn't an operating Merc in this town.
Hmmmm, I don't need lessons on the lessening need for FTD anymore, so, that aside, I had NO PROBLEM finding a shop to happily fill this order, so, our need to be members is a dying requirement, and, though we use the services of FTD on a regular basis, we may as well use our membership money to go to the casino, as the results are often the same!

Gina, FTD is on life support...it has become irrelevant,the greatest fear of ANY business, and when this summer is done, the rapid disappearing act of this company WILL BECOME very evident!
I've stopped complaining long ago, but, I KNEW I could cry on all your shoulders.....I'm used to patching holes, NOT pulling the plugs.....

We gave up on Domestic retrans years ago.
Used to be that when we had an area that we did not have a store in or that there was no FTD shop period we would send the order thru retrans. Half the time someone from retrans would call us with the order we just sent them asking if we could fill it. It used to get a pretty good laugh in our call center.

I thought at the time and I still do that it was simply a case of trying to "be everything to everyone". From where I sit it often appears that they are attempting to be too many things at the expense of doing any of them really well.

- Selling Direct to the consumer
- E Commerce Sites for Florists
- POS Systems
- Co-op Advertisng
- Google Advertising for Florists
- Floral supplies
- Fresh Flower Wholesale
- Printing
- After Hours Phone service
- Credit Card Clearing
- Retrans
- etc, etc, etc,

This board is filled daily with musings on where WS's will be in 5 years, I don't have a crystal ball so I don't know. But If I was making the decisons I would suggest a bit of focus, get rid of some of the services that they do not do that well (or that are lightning rods for discontent) and committ to being the absolute best on those they do and bringing value to their members.

Again, just my thoughts, but as most on thsi board know I have no real bone to pick with the wire service, they are just one tool in our toolbox athat workds well for us.
