tree identification? I have a friend who is tyring to figure out what this tree is in their backyard. I have a picture if need be. I have tried searching on the net but I my results are not good. Thanks!!!

You can start at www.gardenweb.com they have MANY links to all kinds of horticultural sites and references. If nothing else works, you can always post the picture there and someone (like they do here) will pop on and answer you (just make sure you ask for the common name...some of the people like to use their Latin terms!!!)

Thanks Amy!! I posted there hopefully someone can identify it. :)

Ok Eric....here it is!! I have an inkling as to what it may be but would love additional input!

It looks to be a variety of a Bauhinia Tree (Hong Kong Orchid Tree).

Eric's right...

Here's a thread from last year...

I've already deleted the picture of my tree. I'll see if I can find it again.

The tree in my backyard is around 20 foot high and beatuiful when in full bloom. Boy, what a mess when it looses its leaves and small limbs.

Here in Houston they bloom from April, May to Oct, Nov...

Here's a picture of one of the trees from my parent's yard. They have white and purple trees. Notice the seed pods (each pod drops 6 to 10 seeds)...
