I looked into them and decided it was a waste of money and time. I called some florists in my area who tried it and they were all unhappy.

Just got off the phone with Superpages.
Another directory site. I just signed on for a free listing couple weeks back, just for a link to our site to improve SEO.
I got a call about placing a paid ad for 99 ot 200 per month. My gosh the marketer told me to go to the site and enter florist and costa mesa.
The whole page was OG sites. There are some local free listings like the one I put up.
Kinda scolled her. I just said, " It isn't right when I search for florist and a city/state and get a pile of OG sites with only a few local listings.
I indicated there shouldn't be any florist listed that wasn't in complete agreement with my search terms. In fact, I told her that Google was better and free.
Google is a feast for SEO websites of course, but under the local business listings they are doing "some" better.
Immediately below the Google local business listings are all the directories and OG sites.
I'm just about pursuaded that this industry is being pounded unrelentingly from every direction. It's like getting dog-piled in Hockey or Football.
