Ok so we're on the roller coaster again. What happened to us last year is happening again. We own a house in IL (we love it) and it will be available for rent Nov. 1. If you or anyone you know needs to rent a house in the NW Subs of Chicago (Elgin/Schaumburg) please let me know. We are trying desperately to hold on and I fear it may have to come down to me & the kids moving back to IL. I don't want to yet....we're stationed out here until 05/10. Our tenants are late with half the rent and they told our prop. man. that they will be moving out at the end of the month. UGH...we've got 2 weeks to get this advertised and hopefully rented. does it never end???:wallhead:

I don't know how Chicago/Illinios laws are set up, but we are seeing here a lot of people setting up rental homes on a RENT TO OWN basis - basically, the rental payments build toward home ownership.

Perhaps that might stir longer term rentals.

I don't want to sell it. That's the thing. We want to keep it. We just keep getting bad tenants who pay late consistently and then end up bailing. i gotta say at least this one gave us a 3 week notice!! thanks

Aileen, did you try Craigslist? It's free.

Also, Woodfield Mall is one of the best malls ever! woohoo! Sorry, got sidetracked there.

Yeah I have it listed on craigslist already. Actually got that done before I posted on here.

rather do IKEA :)

on a side note: I will email my sister who has connections in the Naperville/Downers Grove area, which isn't too far away. Maybe she knows of someone.

Aileen, Do you have any connections to a church family back in IL? If so perhaps they may know of a family looking for a rental situation. Also what about contacting any of the local colleges - perhaps a grad student with family needs a short term rental.

Isn't Oldtimer from Elgin?

Aileen,

There was a story on TV last night (ABC7) about a condo complex in DesPlaines where more than half of the owners/renters are being forced out because the association didn't pay their gas bill (and gas is being shut off to all 150 buildings). Some of them might need a place to live. The complex is called Crestwood, but I would search the ABC7Chicago site for the whole story.

What about posting it in the local Elgin paper (not the Tribune or Suntimes, or even the Daily Herald...they are too expensive!!!). Do you have anyone here that could put up the little flyers in the local grocery stores? You also might want to contact a Polish immigrant group in the area...There is a large population of immigrants who may need housing (as a group, they pay cash and are very clean!?!?!).

Good Luck!!! Let me know if you need any help locally...I am in the Southwest suburbs, but might be able to help where necessary.

p.s. Robin, I hate to disagree with you, but Oak Brook mall is WAY better than Woodfield!!!!

Well I have to say I haven't been to Oak Brook but Woodfield is huge to me!!
Thanks for those suggestions everyone!! I will see what I can get done. I have a friend who lives in Geneva that I can ask. Also one who lives in McHenry and another in South Elgin. Feeling a little better this morning about it. Off to finish making breakfast, eat then off to the shop!

Amy I've never been to Oak Brook so I'll have to take your word for it. :> I am also a fan of Old Orchard and Michigan Avenue....did you hear there is extra sales tax on all the stores on Michigan Ave??? That sux.

Oh and Aileen don't forget Wisconsin, there are a lot of commuters who work in Chicago but live in Racine/Kenosha, maybe they'd like to make the move to Illinois.

Ok so I've listed the house on craigslist. I've received about 5 inquiries and it wasn't even a full day of advertising. It's been about 2 days now and not another inquiry. So I guess I've dropped to far down now. Off to repost! Going to check out advertising in the Courier. :)

Robin, Oak Brook is similar to Old Orchard, but WAY better!!!!! As for the sales tax, yes...the rocket scientist's running Cook County decided to screw all of us over! Sales tax in Cook County is the highest in the country. Luckily for the Magnificent Mile, the dollar is so weak that it is still a value for froeign shoppers.

Robin, if you ever get a day off, now that you are a fancy business owner, I'll meet you in Oak Brook for lunch!!!!

Sorry to hijack the thread Aileen!!!

lol
Oh yeah I'm fancy all right! In the past few days I've felt disheveled, exhausted, overwhelmed and just plain yuck. Remind me to tell you guys the stories of the furniture assembly attempt and the printer return attempt, and how fun and delightful it is to try to cram a whole flower shop into a closet sized space! I feel ok now, I did it, it looks cute (confirmation from spa ladies and clients, thank the lord) and it's all good in the hood. but OY.

If I ever make any money we should definitely do lunch. Oh and to further hijack, I was on Team Korto for PR. booo!
