I am using a portable arbor on a bluff and there can be wind from the Atlantic. How are you tethering down your arbors? I was going to run a cord from each corner pole down to a hook (lack of better word) that is screwed into the ground. These hooks will be placed about 2-3' out from the arbor's footprint. I would like to hide the cord yet not hide it too much because I don't want any of the wedding party tripping over it. Any suggestions?

What kind of base is there on each side? Could you make a large 'hairpin' type stake that would fit over the base and hammer these into the ground?

We use a portable metal arch for beach weddings. We attach 2' lengths of 2x4's to each side of the arch and then bury these in the sand. Adds support and stability, no problems yet. jenny

I believe it would be best to achor it down. I had an arch blow into a pool once the life guard "saved" it. Scared the .... out of me buth flowers were fine.LOL

Look in your local hardware store in the fence section and you can find the U shaped anchors that they use to hold chain link fences down.
