I see it already. Feeling are being hurt, people are not accepting other people coments or views. Rifts are already forming between people who post on this board.
Having this political section on this board, may not be a good idea. Maybe I am over sensitive on this subject, but that is just what I see at the moment in what's happening.
SO Do you think Ryam should remove this section of keep it.
Please vote.

My best friend AND my wife have differing political views...and I still talk to them.

Similar to gab fests that I used to part of 25 years ago at university, stimulating conversation stimulates the mind. Censorship of any kind dulls it.

Hey! Maybe Dubbya should go back to school for some stimulation! Just kiddding (not).

Leave it as is , if you get your dander up over things that get posted then don't go there , it is only an option , not a requirement. As seen by the posts a very divided and some times hostile section, many people get upset over what gets posted on other threads but no one is asking to have them removed.

Me too. Censorship is a bad thing. As for Mr. Bush going back to school.... well, he has already admitted to not reading.... what would be the point. ;)

Ryan, Please Consider What Luc is Saying!

Luc, Your sentiments match mine - I was just thinking the same thing! Rather than become a forum to help each other in our industry, these political posts are becoming vehicles to attack each others' political beliefs. What makes it more volatile is that this board is frequented by American and Canadian florists so nationalistic tones can cloud our opinions.

Ryan, I've known you "electronically" since the days of the FTD Board - I followed you here and have enjoyed your board very much. There is no subject I would urge you to take action more so than these political discussions. These debates are polarizing us and that is a bad thing. Please give serious consideration to discontinuing the political forum on this board. I visit Flower Chat not to argue but rather to learn and to help others in the retail floral industry. We need to help each other instead of attacking each other! Please Ryan, restore congeniality and harmony to Flower Chat!

Re: If ya can't stand the heat.................

Since this is a CATEGORY, folks can elect to READ and COMMENT or COMPLETELY AVOID the area.

POLITICS like RELIGION has always been a HOT TOPIC of DEBATES.

Although, these days and as one listens to the LEFT WING MEDIA, their PUNDANTS, and their LACKIES and LEMMINGS, Kerry even has a plan to CHANGE WATER INTO WINE, FEED THE WORLD with LOAVES and FISHES from ONE BASKET, and WALK ON WATER TOO!

All I can say is; THANK GOD for the INTERNET, the CABLE NEWS PROGRAMS like FOX, and ALL OPEN and FREE BULLETIN BOARD FORUMS where intelligent people can discuss the facts and eliminate the FICTION!

Kerry can kiss my tush 'cause I'M STICKING WITH BUSH!

SEMPER FI! Let the AL QAIDA DIE on THEIR LAND and IN THEIR SAND!

Frank and Luc... I do appreciate how you feel and your sentiments regarding this forum... but, it is a self-censoring issue I think. Personally I enjoy the debate; it's good for my political mind. ;) Couple that with all the things I learn makes this board good all the way around.

I concur with Vic

And like me, take what ya want and leave the rest...

I enjoy watching ya'll battle, enjoyed seeing David stick his foot in it, and am smart enuf to keep my A*S outa it...

Were all big boyZ and girlZ...and besides, it'll die down in about 16 days, once the election is over (14 days) and two more for the supreme court to decide who wins this time ;)

Ok now listen please. There is a category here called "Anything Goes" that I used to view it at first, but when I saw how filthy and offensive most of it was I MADE MY OWN DECISION TO STOP GOING THERE.

It's not hard to do, just DON'T DO IT.

As for other American & Canadian florists viewing all this political trashing - well, isn't it more of a reflection of the poster's true character or lack of it and not their nation. They, we, or I am just one person. They, we, or I do not represent the whole nation.

Name-calling, low-blow joking, extreme smart alec responses, and personal attacks are something that only goes to discredit the poster.

I say keep it open! Just like prestonway's wife and best friend, my parents did not see eye to eye politically and I don't remember them acting like it was any big deal.

Not about censorship or taking heat....

It is not about taking the heat, or censhorship or if it does nto interest you don't go there attitude. It is about preserving friendships, hard feelings, sanity. Are we getting out of hands with Political views, anything goes jokes, etc etc. I know we asked for these things, but what is half of those topics have to do with Florist and shops?
I know we all have freedom of speech etc, but I feel sometime it is going out of hand, and I am sure one day it will be out of hands and I will say...I told you so.

Luc

You Know Luc, you have something there...Before this free for all, this place was very relaxing to visit and Wahla! a free for all to form opinions about one another over the internet has just about destroyed friendships and trust here.

I put my foot in my mouth a few times since the free for all and last year before the freebee I said something I was ashamed about and told everyone I was sorry and life went on but, too much time is being spent on this tread of freebee attacks and nonsence that I pretty much just read it and shake my head.

Once the "edit" feature was reinstated I decided to view this as a "read only" segment and withdrew out of the Ofc.

I already saw it

If you remember I was almost "stoned" because I made a protest about the political threads, so Ryan decided to make a new forum. My thinking at that time was it was going to cause rifts among some good people in here. Now it is coming true. I was never for censorship...just take it outside of this board. There are forums just for this this type of debate or mudslinging.
I could care less if you keep it or delete it. My feathers were ruffled for a few days but I came back because there is good information for my floral business. That is why I joined in the first place - to get good sound advice and maybe even make some new friends that are in the same boat I am. It's my choice to read other's political views and I usually choose not to.

We are all responsible for our own conduct. We are all responsible for what we choose to read. Censorship is not the answer and denying people the choice to make their own choice is censorship at it's finest.

I don't read flowersoft forums - it's a lot of gobbledook I don't need to read - yet those messages come up on my new message list. I simply don't read them and I would prefer the right to make that decision with "Anything goes" as well.

You see the vote score - don't like it? It's really very simple...The mouse is in YOUR hand.

I find it all rather entertaining.

Cuz I CHOOSE to click there, just like you can CHOOSE not to.

Now on the other hand, that wire service forum, all it is is just a bunch of griping and complaining and sniveling about how bad they treat us, maybe it should be eliminated too. And that smartass gloating MAS users forum, and the tech support in public forum, and and and, yeah I think Boss should have to change his name to Servant.
:treadonme :treadonme :boggles:

If your going to get your feelings hurt by what is posted on here, then my advice would be to not read the posts. There are several forums on here that I don't read, mostly because I'm not interested in them. For the most part I find the political forum interesting as it gives me an opportunity to see other peoples views. And as with any other on line message forum your going to get people that refuse to look at their own actions while taking offense at what others say.
If your going to post something on here, especially in the political forum, then your going to take the risk of being criticized. Especially if you don't like Bush :hammer: Lol.

I remember how a couple of years ago, I was blasted big time for my views on FTD. Now that person is no longer FTD and writes posts about all the problems they had with them and how much they dislike FTD. Should that person and myself not be allowed to post about FTD because of what happened?

Anyway, my vote is to keep it.

Heck no you should not...!!! Unless of course it is cleared thru the proper channels, and the correct "spin" is applied, and then it is washed thru the various scrubbers, and recieved it's Good Housekeeping approval sticker....ONLY then...

Sheesh... usually politics and friendships don't mix...nanny nany boo boo...told ya'll so!

The spirit of this board is in jeopardy!

"Welcome to the Flower Chat Community

Flower Chat is a forum for members of the floral industry to
associate, share ideas and learn from each other."

This is what reads as you enter Flower Chat. Is political mudslinging really helping us? Is it contributing to the betterment of this forum? Are any opinions being changed? What I see happening is what Luc, Blue, & Sweetscented see happening - a souring of the spirit of this board. We might be in the MINORITY on this subject, but that doesn't mean our thinking is in error. As far as censorship goes, Ryan already censors this board in regards to vulgarity, religious hatred, homophobia, pornography, threats of violence against each other, illegal activity, etc, etc, etc. ... Censorship is a fact of life! Censorship, within limits, is what keeps society (and "communities") cohesive. If this type of behavior is allowed to continue, BOSS will be right when he says "told ya'll so."

You may have a point. I found that the attitude on the board soured a bit back, I took a month break from the board because of it (this was pre-forum). Thanks for the food for thought, Frank, I may rethink my views on that forum.

Audra

Audra, Thank you for keeping an open mind. I think Luc has done us (and Ryan) a favor by bringing this issue to the forefront.
