I've been watching the UK's Arena Flowers (bouquets shipped via courier) rise though SERPs using basically every SEO tactic in the book. (Social bookmarking, Digg, blogging, etc... - and some very attractive flowers and written content on their site, too. )

I ran across a blog post today where a reviewer describes how he was emailed a discount offer if he would write a post about Arena. It's a fascinating read and touches on pay-for-reviewing, blogging, web usability and customer relations.

Notice how Arena replied directly to address the 'niggles'? They look to be very much on top of their game.

According to the review, the site has one interesting option I hadn't thought of:
Another nice touch is the ability, for an additional £1.99, to upload a photo to include in the greeting card.
Hmmmm...

As much as the offer of review-for-a-discount sounds distasteful, this well-written post proves it can be otherwise.

Wow, their site is scarily impressive. It seems to be the bizarro version of 800flowers - giant floral company, with ethics? Everything is spelled out on their site, especially about how they handle deliveries.

Interesting blog post - I would have no problem offering "floral renumeration" to a bride, or whomever, to write down the praise they so often offer by phone. The key is finding the words to make that offer, so it doesn't sound..... as bad as it sounds! More food for thought ......

I like the site much more than 1800 because it has............ personality.
Did you see this Father's Day special? It's call Red Devil :fdevil:

Great look. Hip, fresh and appealing. Of course, the vodka's the 'hook' and most of us US florists can't sell or deliver it. Still a great concept.

I really like how most of their plants are shown in clear glass cubes/cylinders - neat look. The care tags are a good idea, but their care instructions for plants come up as care for cut flower instructions.

I wonder if mum gets a ginny or vodka too, or the more ladylike tea.... I also wonder what our UK counterparts think about this site?

Quite by accident, I came across a video from Arena Flowers on YouTube. The theme is supposed to be about recruiting a new person for their finance depatment but as you'll see, it definitely conveys as sense of the big/small/personal feel the company.

What was refreshingly surprising is the sense of bootstrapping. No fancy corporate office and Mum is running customer service. (Pretty much like a lot if us. :) )

It's a soft sell with some celeb name-dropping but comes off as really real. Would play really well to consumers IMO.

Just happened to catch this. . . . .

other video which begins the same as the one CHR came accross.

The guy brags on their "fridge" being kept at the perfectly optimum temperature of 6.6 deg C.

My engineering mind decided to convert that to F and it is 44 deg F.

Seems a bit tepid to me.

I feel my brain cells triggering after seeing that last video.

I wish we could get Hand Tied arrangements to work here in the States!!

If I had to do that video you would see more hats being worn by the same individuals here.

Thanks for sharing!!!

I think the website is great and a huge site, i spent a good ten mintues browsing through it all. I agree they are trying every SEO trick in the book, but i don't think it would be apparent to the average person with no knowledge of it. Althought i haven't seen them on google before and they only appear on the first page if you put london in your search, unlike the other national companies that always crop up on the first page.

They have a few clever ideas that could be useful to us all especially the testimonial reward, most coustomers don't bother putting a thank you comment in writing but that offer of a discount could spur them on

Traceability. . . .hmmmmm

Interesting concept of Traceability through Fair Flowers Fair Plants.
Noticed on the Arena Flowers Video the tag that goes on each stem?

Their are four US grower/importers that participate.

Could this be something to set Real Florists apart?
