I just got a notice from the Illinois tollway that we need to pay them over $800 in fines!! YES, FINES because my hubby decided to run the tolls one time too many back in Early 2006!! YES, that's right...2006! Apparently they sent us notifications...well I never got one except for the one saying we owed them. Oh I'm Gonna KILL HIM!! no I'm not but seriously...UGH!! :boomsmili:buttkick

You have my complete empathy Aileen.

A quick story. My daughter, while she was in college, borrowed my car for a weekend. She brought it back to me, both vehicle and daughter were safe and sound.

Fast forward to license renewal time. Imagine my shock and dismay when I was told I had to clear up $300.00 in parking fines before I could renew. I had no idea what they were talking about. However, as I thought and thought about the date of the infractions I realised they belonged to Alana. I love love love my child, but boy it's a darn good thing she wasn't anywhere near me at that moment (actually for several thousand moments truth be told).

Well, Aileen,

From what I can glean, it is pretty much frigid to the max temperature wise there in Illinois. If I were you, I would hide his thermal long-johns, coffee thermos, and campfire heater, and let him share the doghouse for a few days.

Rick, He's in Ca.....I can't do #$%^ to him.

It gets tiring cleaning up someone else's mess....GRRRR.

I feel your pain... everytime my son comes home from college I find out 2 months later that he got a parking ticket at the beach because he didn't have a parking sticker... I even asked him at Christmas if he got a parking ticket and he said no and low and behold I get a $35 ticket: 20 for the ticket and 15 for not paying on time.... I'm sending him to live with your husband..... hehe

Then Aileen......You start building up those headache days.....so many days per infraction.

Boss: Don't remind me!

Rick: I LOVE that solution...I have NEVER denied that man! Sounds like a good plan.

Flower Lady: I feel he will just corrupt your son even more... ;) either that or he'll end up in the Marine Corps!!

V: I wish he was near me!! It takes me a long time to blow up (I don't get mad easily) and well this just takes the cake. It's soooo dumb and such a waste of money.

aileen...you need to call the number listed on your bill and beg for forgiveness... if you have a transponder, you can tell them that you thought you registered all your vehicles on it....if you get a sympathetic person, you might be able to have your fines reduced or even erased. tell them your husband is in the service and you have moved numerous times, were unaware...you might be surprised... call right away though.

I think that is awesome advice! It can't hurt to try, Aileen. Fingers crossed!

Hey, good thing he got a pay increase !:poke:

Ha! Funny, funny Elmo/Ellen!!

I did call right away...cuz I was like what?..What??!...WHAT?!!!! I did try speaking with a rep and she was sort of a jerk. She was telling me, well you need to speak with the Illinois Tollway people and try to reason with them but it isn't gonna work, hahah. Do you want the number? I said Yes, please then got it and hung up on her while she was asking me what my name was. Yeah I don't deal with rude people anymore than I have to. I did speak with them and theyy said it looks like we got double billed and that's why the fines are so high...so technically it should be about $300...still a lot but better than $850. I have to call back once I get proof that we were out of state.

Thanks everyone for listening to my vent....sometimes it just feels much better to type it out and release it than to go sit in a corner and fume! ;)

Your MARINE was on OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT BUSINESS!

When and if you can get to someone with a BRAIN who also has AUTHORITY, explain to them that, your husband, a UNITED STATES MARINE, was on official Government Business.

Accordingly, and as a PROFESSIONAL COURTESY to our MILITARY, who are willing to DIE FOR THEIR FREEDOMS, you would appreciate it if, they could waive the fines under those circumstances.

We had to endure the CITY OF WHITE PLAINS, NEW YORK, and their over zelalous parking authority, when they insisted on giving out TOO NUMEROUS parking tickets to our local recruiters, especially the MARINE CORPS with official USMC Government marked cars.

The Marines faced over $85,000.00 in upaid parking tickets.

The kicker was in the fact that, the MOTTO for the CITY OF WHITE PLAINS is SEMPER FIDELIS!

After a bru ha ha outcry from the public, the City agreed to waive all the doubling of the fines, and came to an agreement with the USMC.

The sad part, is in the fact that, these cities view these parking authorities as CASH COWS since they are all strapped for revenues. (They spent it faster than the taxes came in)

My letter to the Mayor of White Plains went something like this:

Be advised that, your City, is no longer consumer friendly due to the outrageous parking fees and restrictions you've placed upon the public, especially on our local USMC recruiters.

Accordingly, we will not be shopping or spending any of our hard earned money for entertainment or dining in White Plains anymore.

Facts are that, my family can drive 20 minutes North of White Plains where we can enjoy all of the FREE PARKING we wish, not have to drive around looking for a parking space, and enjoy the same, if not better, shopping, entertainment, and dining experiences.

Keep up the great work and when your local merchants begin to FEEL THE PAIN, which will trickle back down to your City in lost sale's tax revenues, maybe then, you CITY FATHERS will get the bigger economic picture of your STUPID and HOSTILE ACTIONS!

Sharon, if I could "dot" you I would. That's a great idea.
