This is from Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox. Just passing it along.

Can You Help? Tell your friends about StopAsianCarp.com
Thank you for signing the online petition to protect hundreds of thousands of jobs and the Great Lakes at StopAsianCarp.com. Your efforts are helping me make our case to President Obama and Congress that residents of the Great Lakes region will not stand by silently as federal officials allow Asian carp to destroy our Lakes.

TELL FIVE PEOPLE: STOPASIANCARP.COM

Now you can do even more.
Please forward this email to five friends or family members, one for each of the Great Lakes, asking them to sign

the petition at StopAsianCarp.com.

We need to act because the U.S. Supreme Court declined this week to close the locks in Chicago that can stop Asian carp from entering the Lakes, ignoring Michigan's pleas and those of Ohio, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, New York and Ontario.

Making things worse, it was revealed federal authorities knew of new DNA evidence of Asian carp IN LAKE MICHIGAN but did not make the Court aware before it made its decision.

The front door to Lake Michigan remains wide open even as these waterborne aliens threaten to devastate the Lakes' $7 billion fishery and hundreds of thousands of jobs connected to the health of the Lakes. The need for each of us to act has never been greater.

TELL FIVE PEOPLE: STOPASIANCARP.COM

Please forward this email right now to five friends or family members, asking them to visit StopAsianCarp.com and sign the petition demanding authorities in Washington D.C. and Illinois act today.

That's telling one friend about www.StopAsianCarp.com for each of the Great Lakes. Please help us sound this critical alarm.

Thank you,

Mike Cox
Michigan Attorney General

We have them down here. They've taken over, it's incredible. I heard on the radio the other day that they are trying to market them now, as Silver Fin, and saying how delicious they are. hmmm. I can't imagine a way to get rid of the things, I think we have them here to stay. I hope that something can be done up there.

CAT food???

Not being sarcastic...

Maybe they should be harvesting them, and shipping them to Haiti. They are edible, and much better than mud pie.

Excellent idea!!Refrigeration would be a problem, but dried would work down there. I'm sure that right now they are only getting MRE's ...when they can get those that is. There was a chef here that said they taste like a cross between scallops and crab. Strange, but of course they are trying to market them and would probably say anything to get people to buy them. I've also heard they are very bony, but still there are literally tons of the things out there, and the best part is...they jump right into the boat!

we tried Basa last week......it's a mudcat (catfish) from places like the Mekong Delta, and though a little "soft" for my liking, it has wonderful flavour and is a staple in many diets.
The true problem with the Asian carp, is it's ENORMOUS propensity for destroying natural fish habitat, and it's ability to adapt and prosper, and much like the zebra mussel, CAN and WILL change the Great Lakes dynamics forever.
From a Darwinian theory, the "strongest",should survive, and as humans, we should learn to utilize what mysteries nature brings us, SO, the idea of harvesting the carp for commercial purposes, is bang on, though, NOT the way, I'd like to see it happen.
This petition has been circulating for some time...get your name on it!!

I don't see anything Darwinian in this, nature did not bring these to us, they are an alien transplant with no natural predators. I think they need to be eradicated before more major damage is done, and if they can feed some hungry people along the way to that end, then I say go for it any way they can. Just IMHO :)

Question: A while ago, my relatives in the Mich/Windsor, ON areas were concerned about the zebra mussel infestations in Lake Erie, Lake St. Clair and Detriot River... did they come up with a workable solution there? Geez, the carp mess sounds brutal!

Great ideas to use them for food, whether for people if edible or for starving feral cats... and/or fertilizer!
