I have been watching and following the news, especially in Victoria province, and was "guessing" that some of these wildfires were maliciously set on purpose.
IF that is true, and IF they are ever caught, they should AND MUST face 1st degree murder charges, for the destruction of so many innocent people, INCLUDING children, and so much property loss.
It certainly hasn't helped, that parts of SA have been in such a horrible heat wave, that it's become almost impossible to work, and breathe, BUT, the wildfires are by far, the scariest.
To our Aussie friends.....please let us know you're ok!!

I've just looked at some pictures....my heart is heavy and fighting the tears...if this was arson I can not fathom this kind of evil. I pray that they are found and brought to justice before Him.

Thanks everyone for thinking of our Country.

Well... I woke to the news this morning that the death toll from the fires is now at approx 180 people. The devastation in the state of Victoria is totally unbelivable, it is really hard to fathom the enormity of what has been lost. Towns have been totally destroyed, with nothing left standing.

Even though the fires are far from us in Queensland, I think I can say that as a nation we are all devastated and most know someone or have connections to the region.

The media has reported that this is the Worst disaster in our History. There has been many stories of suffering and loss however this morning there has been equally as many about tales of Survival. Although it has been said that we should expect the Death toll to rise these survival stories have given hope to those that still are unable to contact Friends and Family. A good friend of mine has lived in the area and has been unable to make contact with Friends, he is totally devastated.

Attached is a photo of what is left of Marysville

North Queensland on the other hand is in flood. We are truly a nation of extremes......

Hi Guys,

I am fortunate enough to be on the other side of the country, however the whole nation seems to be feeling a little numb right now. Normally I'm pretty tough about these things but hearing the stories on the news, seeing people who survived but are badly burnt and they have lost everything but are still so happy just to be alive and to have each other, it just chokes me up. Even shed a tear for the poor little koala with burnt paws.

The power of these fires is just incredible - just saw on the news a car that was a few feet clear from actual flames caught fire from the radiant heat. It is just so scarey because a similar thing could happen to such a very large portion of our country.

But is wonderful to see all the people chipping in to help, and the very brave firefighters (most of them volunteers) who are putting their own lives on the line.

Thank you for thinking of us from the other side of the world.

I can imagine just a bit of what you're going through our Aussie friends. We, here in the Okanagan, lived through devastating wildfires (caused by lightning mostly) in 2003. We did not have the loss of human life, thank goodness. My thoughts go out to you! The threat of fire is so intense and is so hard to live with day in, day out....extremely stressful. The only silver lining was that communities, locally, across the country, the US and around the world really came together to help in any way they could. For you: I Pray for rain; no lightning!

These are pics I took in our town and closer to the fires that terribly hot summer (over 200 homes lost in Kelowna - not nearly as devastating as what is going on in Australia RIGHT NOW but at the time it sure felt like the world was about to END at any moment): http://members.shaw.ca/dzunti/Okanagan Mountain Fire - August 2003/

This site has photos taken by people all over the valley: http://gallery.castanet.net/albums/Okanagan+Mountain+Park+Fire+2003/
