We just had a request for a baby announcement wreath, to be hung on the door of the hospital room and can be taken home after leaving the hospital. Being unfimilar with such a thing, we googled it, and found one which we thought was fairly ugly, and wondered in anyone one here makes the wreaths and would share a picture.

The caller was from Texas, and I imagined, from her description, that it might be something similar to the homecoming mums.

All help is already appreciated!

LOL...you're right.

Take a Styrofoam ring, wrap in #9 ribbon.
Add a bow and streamers
Put a stuff animal in the center...

Connie, I got the best idea for you hon,

You can adapt this instruction to ANY occasion ( including new baby )

I have attached a pdf file - the shown holiday occasion is thanksgiving.

Now, I do attach the balloon differently, rather than using carpet tape which they recommend, I smear a good bit of pan melt glue on the balloon and cardboard circle.

( Remember - Pan melt glue should be ideally between 200 and 210 degrees or the consistency of taffy. )

I like to mix translucent cellophane with Loops of #40 satin ribbon going around the edge of the cardboard.

This is "like the homecoming mums" in Texas. Many are sold everyday and when you go to a hospital....most of the doors have a baby wreath on the door. They are really good money makers for the florists....so, we make them.

Several years ago, when I had my shop in Missouri, I hired a Texas designer and she convinced me that we had to start selling those "baby announcement wreaths". So, she made up many for display. We showed them to everyone for a couple of years never sold a one.

They are truly another Texas "thing".

we do them!

Yes, I'm in Texas. We do these a lot. Like Renee's with a stryfoam wreath and another that has streamers and basically a large bow with a bear in the center. Built like a homecoming corsage. We personalize the streamers with name, birthdate, weight and height. Tie some pacifers etc. on the streamers. We keep a blue and a pink one in the shop ready to go at all times. The new mommy rooms all have a hook on the doors. Like homecoming corsages they are tacky, but they sell and money is nice to have in the bank.

Thank you so much! Now I have an idea of how to attack this design.

BTW, I surely meant no criticism of Texas or the homecoming mums. I'd do them in a skinny minute if they'd sell here. I think they are wonderful. Cha-ching!
