Baby's Breath Garland & Wreaths

OK--who has suggestions on how to make this?

bb.jpg

Client wants it as shown and I need to get a quote to her by Monday. I'm thinking a pre-made foliage base with BB glued in. But if anyone has better ideas PLEASE let me know! No matter what, labor's going to be a b**ch!

Thanks!

Thea, I think I would try to find straw wreaths and then base them with spanish moss. I would actually pick in bb clusters with metal picks but if you don't have a pick machine, just wood picks would probably work.

The garlands I think I would loosely wire together Italian ruscus and spanish moss. I would actually then use paddle wire and make the bb garland by laying stems of bb along the ruscus/spanish moss. I think you will find that you have a much better shot at keeping it fluffy that way than trying to glue pieces in, and the labor would be waayyyyy less.

have you made garland on wires only....like using wires and wiring/gluing handful of b.b. we normally make wedding garlands like that...If you made several strings and tie them together you will get same look.... and for the wreath try green styro wreaths and put moss first then pick the bb blooms and fill in . If you use oasis wreaths they will be very heavy.

The garlands look to be hand wire, which is what I would do, to keep the fluffiness. The wreaths need to be lightweight, maybe styro with a backing of salal and pick clusters of bb to cover the front. It's a beautiful piece.

What I would do in this case.......is to use an oasis wreath base....but to minimize weight and drainage.....ONLY SOAK FACE DOWN TILL HALF THE EXPOSED FOAM IS SOAKED. Then remove and lay face UP for 1 hour. THe excess water drains INTO the dry part of the oasis.

For the long garland......since this is an event......I would take a premade galand and glue the babys breath in.....or usethe oasis garland bases.....might be easier and less laborious to use the garland bases.

We occasionally make baby breath halos for flower girls and I have always used paddle wire and wrapped pieces together to make a garland to start, you develop a technique to this over time. Doesn't take that long to do but it would take a butt load of BB to make all that garland. I think I used a half a bunch just to make a halo and charged like $35 for it. We sometimes used greens but most of the time not, no greens would give you the look you see in the picture, it can be made as thick as you want by using more bb even without the greens. I would think you could make a long garland and then pin it in place on a foam wreath, it has never wilted on us so no need for the foam.
