Bereavement time off & pay

We are in an unusual situation here..... 2 of my employees have very recently had deaths in the family of important family members. We have never had this happen before in 20 years.!!

What is your policy & pay for bereavement? (# of days off allowed & do you pay or not pay for any of that time? Do you allow or not allow additional time off on an unpaid basis?)

I don't know if there are any rules or laws but ....

when we had a long time employee loose her father a few years ago .... we gave her a week off (not including the time of the death, visitation and the day of the service ... so probably added up to 8 days) and it was with pay .... she was a valuable employee that had been with us for over 10 years and knowing that she needed some time and her family was home it was not too much to do. She really appreciated it.

As much time off as they need, no pay, any flowers and labor needed at cost.
