What kind of suspension should Todd Bertuzzi get for his hit on Moore of Colorado?

thanks Ryan , personally I think he should not be back on skates til 05/06 and of course without pay. If there is a lockout next year that should be tacked on ass well.

Before I choose.....

I wan't to know if there will be charges laid. IF charges are NOT laid, and IF he comes away with a suspended, or NO sentence, then he should be suspended with NO pay, for the rest of this season, and upon anger mangement and psyciatric testing, should be on probation for 2 years, and allowed to play.
IF he either breaks his probabtion, OR, is charged and convicted, then a PERMANENT end to his playing career in the pros.

Mikey , thats a great idea , never thought of it like that, should also apply to anyone who attempts to injury , sticking out the knee when you miss a check or an elbow, like the hit Moore did to Naslund. Actually any injury caused by any action like that should be dealt with more severely . Just think if those rules had applied Ulf Samuelson would have only ended one career instead of the many (Pierre Mondou eye, Brian Bellows knee, Cam Neely knee) and many cheap shot guys would have had a much shorter career, Bobby Clarke, Ken Linseman, Dale Hunter, Mark Messier, Glenn Anderson , Marty McSorely, Claude Lemeuix etc.

I voted like Peter responded Regardless of Assault and Battery charges...I think charges should be handed down.

I enjoy hockey but this thug mentality has got to stop. You'd have thought that McSorley would have been the wake up call but no - there are still people that make their living being a goon on skates. Unless someone in the NHL does something serious about this, we're going to end up seeing someone killed.

Tough measures will need to be taken to ensure that doesn't happen. He could have ended this guy's career, he should pay with his own.

IMHO the TEAM should suspend him themselves, but that will never happen....

Personally the joke always was "I went to the fights and a Hockey Game broke out!!" It has gone way beyond the pale...
Anyone who fights, starts or finishes it, should be automatically suspended. It certainly doesn't show any sportsmanship or talent to fight or to hit someone enough to break bones.
Even college hockey gets way to wrapped up in trying to hurt someone. IMHO (not a hockey fan anymore)

Send a MESSAGE NHL and Denver Colorado Law. Clean physical contact is part of the game let's not take that away with this Ruling(s) Game in the upcoming days. They need to come down HARD and that will send a message to the League Players for the First Step into this nonsence Injury GOON antics for Professionals?.

Have no respect for anyone who blindsides another or hits another from behind; weed out the trash (criminal charges and a civil suit) and get on with it; always thought Bertuzzi was a tough but fair player, guess I was wrong, he and anyone else who does similar should be permanently banned. The "old" days when the enforcers squared off and got it over with was ok by me but when a player picks on smaller or weaker players who don't prevoke an attack they should have several warnings and then they're gone. Hockey is easily the best sport when there is no thuggery, cheap shots or running goalies!!

Yep...certainly not like the good old days.

I remember about 40 years ago...a "superstar" was being hacked the entire game.

Did he take his stick & "McSorley" the guy? No!

Did his teamates come to his rescue? No!

Did they wait 'till the next game for retribution? H**l no!

The "victim" bided his time, got the guy in the corner, and nailed him out cold with his elbow. The guy never played again.

Anyone remember Lou Fontinato getting his come-uppance from Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe?

Yep...poor Bertuzzi. A few years back he gets 10 games because he left the bench to help when Jovanoski was getting pounded by Parker from the Avalanche. Jovo is 5' 11", and about 205...Parker is 6' 4" and 240.

More recently, we watch Cancuk Team Captain Markus Naslund get elbowed unconscious by Moore, and nothing happens...not even a penalty...and no retribution at the time.

Could Naslund have received a broken neck? Possibly.
Did he receive a concussion? Yeppers.
Deliberate attempt to injure, when Naslund is stretched out to get the puck? Gotta be.
Was there talk of banning Moore for life? Nope...all part of the game...but every fan of the game knew that some form of retribution was going to happen.

Not much different when Ottawa played Phlly. Havlat cross-checks Recchi in the chops, & gets a two game suspension. What happens the next time the two meet? RETRIBUTION!!

Over 400 minutes in penalties to set a single game NHL record. Yet, one player THAT WAS ON THE ICE DID NOT RECEIVE A PENALTY!!!!

Guess who...Martin Havlat.

Did Moore know what was coming?

Forget all the pre-game talk for two weeks about retribution. Two days ago we watch as Bertuzzi talks to Moore coming up the ice...Moore doesn't respond. Bert then grabs his sweater...still nothing. Finally he "loses it", with the unfortunate results that follow.

Ban Bertuzzi for life? Think not.
Past this season? Nopers.
This year, including the playoffs? Maybe, but don't bet on it.
To the end of the regular season would be my guess, and hopefully some sort of message to those "chickens**t" players that think they can get away with murder with no consequences.

NOW THAT'S HOCKEY!

The example should be set , now before its too late , but the stick work has increased to the point where visors are probably going to be made mandatory, and with that so have the cheapshots, watched a game last week where someone on Florida got speared , no penalty, the violence today is nothing compared to the old days when brawls were common place and fights happened in every game. Hell , back in the 70's Philadelphia had more fighting majors in one season than the whole league does now , but the serious attempts to injure happen more often and that stuff has to be eliminated.

Upon further REVIEW on MY part... can I change my vota ?? To LIFE on the ZAMBONI ????

Watching the slo-mo and then the press conference "I did not mean to hurt him" so I SUCKER SLAMED HIM (CNN today mentioned a broken neck, is this true?)...

Hard hits into the boards are part of the game and always have been, but this is gettig ridiculas !

Yes, he has 2 broken vertebra in his neck.
I heard that apology also "I did not mean to hurt him."
Pathetic.
I can't change my vote because I voted to ban him for life.
Hockey has to clean up its act and again become a sport for atheltes instead of goons.

Well, verdict is out. He's gone for the rest of the year - big deal. Team was fined 1/2 million bucks - big deal. Bettman will decide if he comes back next year - place your bets.

The NHL should have taken a stronger stand on this one.

[Anyone remember Lou Fontinato getting his come-uppance from Mr. Hockey, Gordie Howe?

Yeah , but Gordie didn't really hit him then, he just got out of his way and Fontinatio went headfirst into the boards. He had earlier beaten Fontinatio in a fight in which he actually beat the lips off him and they had to be surgically reattached. Gordie was a superstar who initiated a lot and got a lot back. Heard one story of his days in the WHA when one of his boys lost a fight to a goon named Ted Scharf and had Marty pinned to the ice and wouldn't stop , anyway Gordie went over a put his fingers up the guys nose and lifted him up that way. Can you remember when Tedder Kennedy of the Leafs buttended Gordie in the eye and Gordie went face first into the boards, nearly died , he was one of the toughest to ever lace em up.

I thought Burke's comment yesterday was the Biggest Joke....
Tells the media they are overreacting and put in the Paper Headlines that it's "Burkes fault".

What a JERK...and his wife is in the news media also.

It's a sign of what's wrong with hockey - that the idiots in charge can't even see why this incident is so dangerous. I read a quote from Brasheur that said he'd have done the same thing as Bertuzzi - sure he would, he's a thug too. You'd think he would have gotten a clue after that stick from McSorley but the goof is still clueless. The NHL and the Players Association don't seem to get it - that if they don't clean up the sport and do something about the violance, they're going to destroy the game.

Think Bob McKenzie on TSN said it best...those that know the game, have played the game, and also other NHL players find the suspension excessive...non-hockey fans & media wanted much longer...as a result, the length of the suspension is probably exactly right.

But did you catch the interview with Hall of Famer Denis Potvin? Get rid of the stupid instigator penalty!!!

Moore would have received his retribution on his next shift after he took the cheap shot at Naslund. No waiting...no threats in the media...no problem!

Also note the ref went into the Canucks dressing room after the first period, warning the players not to go after Moore. NOW WHY WOULD THE REF THINK SOMETHING WAS COMING???

Gee, do ya think maybe the NHL shoulda suspended Moore in the first place? DOH!

Gee, do ya think maybe the NHL shuoulda suspended Havlat for more than 2 games for cross-checking Recchi in the chops? DOH!

So then they interview Havlat about Bertuzzi's suspension..."I'm not in a position to comment". REALLY?

When retribution time came, with over 400 minutes in penalties, WHO WAS THE ONE PLAYER WITH NO PENALTY MINUTES...HAVLAT!!

When Bertuzzi chirps to Moore, does he turn around? When he pulls on his sweater? OF COURSE NOT, BECAUSE HE KNEW WHAT WAS COMING!

If the NHL would do their fri**ing job & clamp down on the cheap shot artists, the guys hammering the defencemen on icing calls, the clutchers, the grabbers...

WALK A MILE IN A MAN'S SHOES BEFORE YOU CONDEMN HIM TO DEATH (LIFE)!
