Apparently, our shop was just picked as one of the top wedding florists by The Knot. They say it was based on a survey of 25,000 of their customers. Before I make a big deal of this and put it on our website, etc., I want to know if this a real deal, or some advertising gimmick and and everybody that advertises in The Knot is also included.

I feel the knot is not in our best interest when it comes to promoting the purchase of wedding flowers from real florist....

Just my Opinion

I can tell you that they are very expensive. We do get a pretty good response. The weddings tend to be smaller, but that's really our niche anyway. Their whole model is all about advertising. I doubt if they care at all about real florists.

Brides that have come in have used the knot reference many times.

How to save money on your flowers!!!
How to do it yourself!!
Your flowers are the last on your list!!!

Tired of hearing this. .

Again my opinions is based upon what brides are saying. We do not advertise on the knot so my Opinion is not complete.

Brides have come in saying they have gone to many of the advertisers on the knot. But they get tired of waiting for "so called florist" to be available out of the home they work out of.

Well I guess we could say since we choose not to advertise on the knot we have allowed others to advertise.

Ted my experience at this point and to anyone else is your better off creating your own website for weddings. I mean if you are willing to cough up 500 bucks a month for any referral source. Your best results are going to be your own website.

I am sick of the directories that charge a monthly rate for very little traffic. I'm tired of PPC that doesn't work very well.

If the going rate of conversions for any PPC is 5% I think your money and my money is better spent elsewhere. just like Party poop!! You know they charged my CC even though it expired!!

At this point the only worth wild place to spend your advertising dollars on the web is still locate a flower shop.

Good luck with your decision sir!!

Eric, check out http://www.OC-Weddings.com It works for us.

Just to expound on this--OC-weddings is our referral site. It works very well for us (and our partners). We also have pretty good wedding sections on our other sites. Not the kind of sites with big, extravagent arrangements because we generally don't do those. The point is, I completely agree with Eric, you've got to use all the resources you have.

Very clean.

Question to SEO information,

When deciding who to advertise on. Does it make a difference if you have a link coming from a website that has a lower say PR? Does it hurt your website or can it eventually add more relevance to your site?

Thanks and Ted thanks for the web directory referal.

Very cool! Absolutely put it on your website, and in your shop, and in the newspaper, and anywhere else it might show up. I don't think it matters who else won this award, or even that you think it might be marketing.

Toot your own horn, as loud as you can, because no one else will!

(Except maybe fellow flowerchatters:))

I concur... even if it is a make believe award bestowed on all advertisers..the brides won't know this.. and they are the ones that you are trying to impress...
you know that Best of the Best scheme award that runs in most towns is nothing but a money making scheme..but the general public doesn;t know this and do not realise that the winners all pay to advertise that they won. I am sure that somewhere this company has data to 'back it up' but it is funny how only companies that pay to advertise
Use anything that can help you..business people will know it is an advertising trick but who cares?? it is the brides you are after

I posted a reply to this thread I thought - but now, I cant find it or some of the other posts I've made:

Talkup that award, put it on a banner, proclaim it in your advertising: The Knot is visited 1000's of time a day by potential bridal customer/ clients. If the brides in your area see that you were selected by them......Who will they go to first?

This could be a marketing boom for you. What you want are those brides, and the mommies and daddies who will be spending the money to make their daughter's special day so happy......and profitable for us ( we hope)

Congrats and as others said, make it known to all potential brides out there.

I do not advertise on the knot, but I do visit quite often, especially since I myself am a future bride. I like the message boards, but very seldom go to the flower board anymore. It is all about DIY, where the public can buy wholesale, and how florist charge "too much". There is one lady on there that drives my nuts, she is a so called florist and most of her info is misleading or just false. She told a bride who was looking for a blue rose that there is a naturally grown blue rose. I told her there was not, that they are dyed. She tried to prove me wrong by posting a website for them. I searched the website and found the "fine print" that the roses are in fact dyed! So, I proved HER wrong. She had no response to that.

anyway, enough rambling, Congratulations again, and use is, use it, and use it again. Like others said, I dosen't matter if it is a "true" award. If the knot gave you an award, weither it was just to you as a florist or you and other florist who advertise, it IS an award. So be proud and show it!!
