I am in the process of optimizing my website. Currently I have the very closest cities that I deliver to listed on a side panel on my pages. However, in reality I deliver to a vast area of 7 counties six days per week.

What I'm working on is a list of all of the zip codes, there are 137 of them. I was planning on putting a table with all of them listed below the fold on my home page. Is just a listing of the zip codes good or is it better to list the actual cities - that would be just under 200 because some are so small they share zip codes.

Also, should there be a separate page for every one of those?

Advice?

I do think you would need to list the actual names because that is what most customers would be looking for.

I'm no expert BUT I can show you how I handled it. I haven't listed all postcodes - just the ones I am trying to get search engine ranking with information pages. Here people don't really know the postcodes and more often than not get them wrong anyway.

I have a heading on my home page called "Our delivery areas" which goes to a page with some info regarding the delivery service and a complete list of towns/suburbs we service. I think you do need to list these by name - you might have customers who want to order from you but may be unsure how far you deliver.

The towns/suburbs I am trying to rank for then link to a page with information including the postcode. It is much easier to rank well in the search engines for towns that do not already have a florist in that town, so I put more time into creating pages for these places and places with only one florist. I believe it is more or less impossible to rank better than someone who is actually in that location, but I would like to get near the top for those customers who want to shop around. Eventually I would like to have info pages for all the major places I deliver to, however it is not easy to do this without generating duplicate content - it's also very time consuming.

The short answer is: that depends on how much work you want to do :)

You can set up pages on your site for each city/town/county that you service. For example:

www.any-timeflowers.com/smallville-mn/
Short job: Create the page with info on your service to that town, list some products (best sellers?) on the page, have a list of zips in that area, and lists of FH, Nursing homes and Hospitals.

Medium job: Create separate pages for each facility like www.any-timeflowers.com/smallville-mn/Bobs-Crematorium/
Include a picture of the facility, it's complete address, possibly even update with service listings, and link to the FH official site. Make sure that you link to this page from every relevant page on your site, and incl some appropriate sympathy arrangements on this page.

Big job: Create separate pages for each zip as well like www.any-timeflowers.com/90210-flower-delivery/
Include mentions of neighbours, landmarks, counties, etc, affiliated with that zip code.

I think you get the drill :)

With your upgraded V3 site this is a lot easier to do than on the old platform.
