Well I've graduated to oldhood (as my 17 yr old claims) and I picked up my bifocals this morning. I have the graduated lens and THEY ARE DRIVING ME CRAZY

I can't seem to find the "distance" view without tipping my head down and then I can't find the closer viewing. I think I'll have a sore neck today.

So my question is How long will it take to get used to these things?? and any tips on getting used to them? One GF says to follow your nose when looking. OK>>>>

Took me a couple days is all, you won't even notice that you are "used" to them, it'll just happen!

Be careful of stairs though for a day or three.... trust me.... ;)

My bifocals are not the graduated kind....and the reading part is very small on my glasses.

I drive with them and read with them... otherwise they are on the top of my head...

Who says where old?

Have you ever tried monovision with contacts?

I have one for reading and one for distance and it is near perfect and I only have to remove them once a month.

It did take about 3 weeks to get used to that years ago, but, I can't imagine life with them now.

No glasses or bifocals to deal with

Lucky you. :) I have more issues with seeing than just needing the bifocals. My eye Dr doesn't recommend contacts for me.

Wasn't able to get used to them.

For me Kristine, I was never able to get accustomed to my new linear bifocal prescription glasses.

Before I got them, I asked several other people who had them and they told me the same thing as Mark indicated. It just takes time to get your brain to understand you have to move your head up and down rather than your eyeballs in order to change the view points in the lenses.

Well, after three months, my brain still couldn't figure it out.

And so, I went back to changing glasses for either distance or reading, which as WEE KNOW, is a pain in the butt.

That was ten years ago!

Here's the kicker.

Since I was ten, I needed glasses for distance, a condition known as Short Sighted, the opposite of what you think it should be.

As I got older (more mature), and like the majority of geezers, I required glasses for reading, Long Sighted.

Two years ago, and after seeing the eye doctor for a new glass script as I had stepped on my reading glasses and broke em, she told me that I was no longer Short Sighted and did not need glasses for distance.

Say WHAT, I asked her. How could that be since I've had to have them for 49 years.

She went on to explain to me that, a person's eyeballs can change shape over time, and that can change their ability to see at a distance.

So, while I hope you can adjust to your new bifocals, just know that, you too may get to change the shape of your eyeballs over time, and may only need one pair of glasses down the road to get by.

I attribute the change in the shape of my eyeballs with squinting over many many years, and in my effort to see any profits to my bottom line. Not to mention, bouts of HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE whenever any customers asked me; DO I CHARGE FOR DELIVERY, or can I do any better with the price?
lol

Thanks for the laugh Johh!! we both have those same customers, so when I start needing blood pressure meds I can write off that cost as a cost of doing biz - right :)

I too am short sighted with a couple other complications. I doubt if I will ever not have glasses unless they invent artificial seeing eyeballs (lol) Just took a couple asprin for the headache......

My dad went nuts with the no line bifocals. Finally went back and got the ones with lines. Plus different glasses for use at the computer. You are not alone. It will get better. Somehow.

....

....one of the worst day/weeks of my life
when I finally realized I was not READING
the newspaper but SKIMMING . Went to
walgreens and bought 1.5's --- 4 sets of
buy one get 2 free. I have a pair located
everywhere I need. Car, computer, bathroom
you name it a pair of the 1.5's is there.
Except that pair of 2.0's I now need to read
that newspaper that comes with less
and less content worth reading. I never
thought my eyes would catch up w/ my age!!!

RATS!!!!

TOTO........LOVE IT!!!! thanks for the giggle-although I too have the dreaded HBP, bi focals and a small dose of "mental health issues!" Good to hear others have those wonderful customer stories-over my 16 years I've got some fab small town issues!

Oh man, you guys are all scaring me out of getting glasses. I only need reading glasses so the dr. suggested getting bi focals, leaving the top half w/o a prescription. I was complaining that I have to keep taking the glasses on and off, on and off.

After reading all these posts, I think I'll continue getting the cheaters at Walgreens, like you, Avenue, and keep one in every room, in the car, etc., etc., etc.

ditto..... RATS!!

sunglasses at
http://www.duluthtrading.com/search...ature=product_2&kw=cheaters&processor=content

diff dioptors at a fair price. They are kinda like
bifocals w/ the dioptor at the bottom.
Cannot beat $17.50/2
now I need them to make sure my cruise is set
at 64 in a 55mph zone!!
Getting old is a bummer.

I do the same thing! When the Lovely Linda and her Mom (89 years young, God Bless her!) go to the DOLLAR STORE, they pick me up the $1 reading glasses (Level 2) and I'm good to go!

Don't know what it is, but those two girls DOO LOVE the $1 Store!

Have to use the needle nose plyers to make a few adjustments to the nose pads and the ear hooks, but after that, and when I step on them, I don't feel so guilty.

As to menopause? NAW! It's just another road to getting older and that's the way it BEE! LOL

CAN YOU SEE ME NOW?
:dunno:

I have had mine for a few years now. I am far sighted so I don't know if that makes a difference or not. It took me a good 3-4 weeks to get used to them, and get into an auto mode when looking at something. Tough it out, it does get better. I just recently got multi-focal soft contacts. I love them for work but have a hard time reading close up with them. Contacts give me full side vision that I don't have with my glasses. Also tried mono vision contacts...never got used to them.felt sick and dizzy all the time.Everybody's brain adjusts differently. good luck :)
