The classic (or cliche?) wedding centerpiece....anyway I've done quite a few of them. I usually make the arrangement on a clear lomey dish and just place it on top. I've never had a problem with it wobbling or falling. I'm making a sample soon for a bride I just wondered if:
1.) You all do the same and it's fine
2.) You've had any probs with this method
or
3.) You have another way of doing it.
Thanks in advance!

Robin i dont know what a pilsner is or a lomey dish, can you show a pic and i will certainly throw my two pence worth in? I refuse to let a small thing like language get in the way of a good discussion lol

Shannon I totally agree, they look great. I am glad to hear you had no probs. Sometimes I have to question myself, or see if there is another way to do things. :)

Paula, a lomey dish is just a clear shallow dish to design in (Lomey is a brand name) and here is a pic of a pilsner vase w/an arrg on top. Disclaimer, I didn't make this one, just a pic off of the net.

yeah we do these all the time, the vase we use is not so wide at the top though, we have a dish that will sit nicely at the top and then we use pot tape to tape it on after we have filled the vase with water. We do the arrangements at the shop and then set the rest up on site. Hope this helps, sometimes we fill the vase with coloured water as well for a change of scene. And filling the vase with cello and water gives a lovely frosted ice look.

I have never had a proble either...we use them all the time. I prefer the Syndicate sales design dishes (6" in clear) because they have a small lip on the bottom which fits just over the edge of the pilsner...plus the sides are perpendicular, not sloped like lomey, so less water spillage.

The only problem I have ever had was when I gracefully was filling them for a calla centerpiece on site (these goofy thinge take almost a gallon of water)...well, the @@@@ thing slipped right out of my hands in the middle of the marble dance floor. Of course this was at one of the higher end venues and the manager was in the midst of showing the room to a perspective bride & groom. Now, I always bring an extra vase just in case I drop another. Yes, I am that graceful!!!!!

Thank you, Palms for asking the question and SpringCity for answering. I didn't know what it was either, but have seen "pilsener" used on this site often enough. I thought, "Ewww, people are asking for beer mug arrangements for their weddings."

Obviously, I don't know much about beer, either.:eek:face

Here's another photo from a recent wedding in Singapore - I scooped it from my friend's site in facebook ") Resolution not so good but an interesting design....

P.S. Did that work? I'm still getting used to uploading pics....

These are so popular, I would never put water in them, and now when you do these you all should put an disclaimer in the contract that you are not responsiable if they fall over. With sites crowding tables up against each othere and drinking folks hit that table, WOW, what a mess that would be. also there is a tape that photographers use, that is much better to use than cling. I will find the name of it. Sorry it escapes me at this point..

Dorothy, that looks really cool.
Queen, I wonder if double-sided tape would work.
In the case of any tape or cling I just don't wanna get tape or cling schmutz all over my vase that I have to try and remove.

Robin i tape onto the vase and its easy to remove, use pot tape. Water makes it safer not to fall over as its less likely to be top heavy. Better on round tables though i would say. Dorothy lovely design.

Once in awhile I get condensation in and on the vase.. I have to leave a little room so the top is not sitting right on the vase. I use cling then use chop sticks broken into small strips and then sit the top on that.. (I know that makes no since) but it works keeps air flowing~

Gracie,

For clarification, see this site:

You'll see a typical pilsner shape and a typical mug shape. A mug arrangement would be pretty "down home", casual, not elegant, IMO. I wonder if it's ever done?

We do alot of these type arrangements and have never had one tip over .We have however had those blasted eiffel tower vase dump over. That was the last time we used them. We find that glue dots work really well and they don't show at all.

I have never had one fall over either, but those eiffel towers, I hat those things, never use them ever, the reason I posted this is, because I saw one fall over at a party we went to, and water was all over the darn place, I would use this product that you use on car windows to keep them from fogging up. also what they hay do I know, Some sites in the areas don't allow water in the big tall vases here, I would use crystals or something else in them, or even the gel stuff

ya know- Queen they do make a eiffle tower with a bigger foot. They seem a bit more stable to me.

Yes I know but I still won't use them, for the fear of the thing, I guess I do to many weddings, and see what happens on the day of, With so many people drinking now than before, also sites are not upkeeping floors or tables as before and things are not sitting to well on things as in years past that is why.I dream of chairs, and nice stable tables.
