I found these perfect black glass vases for a wedding from Cysexel.com but when I tried to purchase the price tripled because of shipping. Has anyone tried to use a spray paint of some sort to change the color of clear glass, and how did it turn out?

Spray painting clear glass can be done.......however, it takes a true artist with proper painting knowledge to do it well.
What I would recommend is adapting a technique that I have used many times over......Take your clear vase - make sure it has a rolled lip near the opening of the vase.....turn upside down and drape a square of cloth over the vase.....then use a rubber band over the cloth at the lip to hold the cloth close to the vase......The best vase for this is the 7 1/4 inch ming urn from Syndicate Sales. The rubber bacd can then be hidden using most any ribbon or vase treatment
