Last month when I made decision to close one of our stores this particular store was the only one that was part of Bloomnet. So of course I canceled Bloomnet upon makeing my decison to close the store. I got a phone call from My rep who up to a few months before was my FTD rep and of course he is trying to convince me to keep Bloomnet and add it to one of my other stores. I proceeded to outline to him in detail how of the 3 wire services they are the worse for sending orders in that are far under valued and that cost of goods typically is well above 33%. His argument at the time was that my average order was $57.00 and that COG's should not be a factor which we all know is nonesense but he has drank the wire service kool aid far to long. I was not armed with anything at the point of that conversation to dispute the average order although I suspect he was not correct and with my quitting I did not really care to waste my time figureing it out. Well today I got my statement from Bloomnetand they have revised the format on there statement and they actually print what your average order was for the month. And for the month of January my average incoming order was a whopping $36.52. along ways from the $57.00 he was touting. And this was the number based on what we actually filled as we had rejected nearly 30% of their orders for being so under valued.

Maybe he was just confused and included the service charges in his average. ;)

great point. Why absolutely... b/c they can get by with this analysis.
Most of us suck it up like it is gospel. Sad.

So glad I stayed out of the bloomnet spiderweb.

Or maybe he was just trying to *be confusing* as they are taught at wire service indoctrination ;)

Steve,
The really sad thing is, I remember distinctly that same rep standing in my shop telling me how you can NEVER make any money on Bloomnet orders. Yet FTD was so threatened by them that they changed the fee structures of any FTD shops accepting Bloomnet orders. I dropped Bloomnet shortly after that, then it wasn't long until I dropped FTD as well.
Over the years I've been involved with all of the big 3. They've dug their own graves with most florists. You can't sell one wire service, then move to another and try to sell that as well. Most of us remember what you've said when you were representing 'X' before moving to 'Y'.

Well he was on the FTD kool aid back then He is nice guy but really not much of a rep frankly none of the wire service reps I have ever encounter would in my opion qualify as a sales rep in any other industry. I am not going to say a few good ones don't exist some placee but they have not covered Vermont.

Why just this week our shop was visited by a rep from bloomnet trying to sell his wares! apparently their one and only florist that they have in our city is closing it's doors and had recommended our store as a potential recruit. He had also said to us the average order value that we would receive would be $57.00 , lol..Think your rep was reading directly from his sales script?

I wonder if these reps have Flowerchat voodoo dolls with pins and needles at the ready. ;)
