:loopyHello Everyone!

I wanted to introduce myself. My name is Cheryl and I reside in Virginia. I design artificial wedding florals and I am in the very beginning stages of opening a wedding and floral business. My passion is designing wedding bouquets, centerpieces, etc. If I am accepted, I hope to learn alot from everyone as well as contributing as often as I can. I'm off to read some more!

You are a classic Basement Betty.

This is a professional florists' forum.

I have no interest in enhancing your wedding business at the expense of a real florist in your community.

Cheryl:
I say this with all sincerity, Please, Please, Please take some formal education in floral design before you continue to try to establish your own business.

While I can appreciate your passion for what you are doing, you need to learn, learn, learn before you "sell yourself" to the public.

We are not knocking your product -- it may be beautiful. However, It could be even better if you educated yourself or apprenticed yourself to a shop first.

This is not a forum generally for silk flower products, or "how tos". While we discuss many design techniques, since you have so little formal knowledge, I am afraid that most of it will be more hazardous to you...rather than helpful.

Running a floral & wedding business is MUCH MORE than doing just bridal bouquets.

Hi Cheryl... first thank you for your interest in Flowerchat. However, as mentioned above this forum is for professionals in the industry. I do hope you find your niche in your chosen field. If you decide down the road to become a full service florist then I hope you will approach us again. In the meantime I wish you luck in your future endeavours.

Kind regards.

V and Cheryl Bakin, thank you for softening my response.

Blushing bride, you don't have any formal experience in floral design. This opens you up for lawsuits if you fail at a wedding. and it also hurts the property tax paying florists in your community.

Go work for them.

Amen Sister!!

I had no "formal training" until last year....

So, Blushing,
perhaps you could post some of your arrangements. Some pics so we can see them.
Where did you learn to design?
Why is this your passion?
Have you ever worked in a retail shop?

Please don't feel we are all a bunch of meanies, because we are not.

I'm curious since you've only been in business less than a month yet you've been designing for 4-5 years....I'd love to see what you've done.

I don't mean to be mean, but you know the Queen has her ways, I wish that . I could just do what I do in my house, and not have all the over head, That darn electric bill is killing the Queen's shoe addication, lordy see, I am so sad that I can't even spell, Wonder who you bye your flowers from probably that company I kicked to the curb for selling to folks like you, I do relize we all have to start somewhere, but not in a house, How can you keep them darn things cools, So when you show up with wilters, then it makes not only my head hurt but my feet,,,it is so sad, I think you need to relize that we all have paid are dues for what we do, and will still due, at one point , I didn't care who joined because that was the way of life that we all had things we could share and learn about, but what can you help me with? Well that was harsh, we all have knowledge, but the sad part is, your customers are the one sufferenin in the long run, and no you don't have to email me case what ifs..

I voted no also.

This forum is not to help people take business away from us.

sorry.....

Shannon, we are not "meanies", we are merely protecting the integrity of the community. The applicant needs to have more real experience in business before becoming a member here... that's the criteria set by the administrators of the board... the same criteria that gained you and me full membership.

I suggest to those who want to see the applicants designs, share your e-mail addresses with her. She may appreciate your input.

Actually, Victoria, when you and I joined all we had to do was sign up and mostly only professionals knew about it. Thus was relatively free of home based businesses.

The approval process is relatively new to FC, most existing members like you and I already met the criteria.

I know that Erlene, I was merely making a point..

True enough, this board has evolved from easy access to a more strident approach to keep, as I said above, the integrity of the board.

I do remember an incident afew years ago when a person from out west (Canada) joined the board. She was a "Basement Betty" with attitude. She managed to get herself banned, so in essense the board has had the protective process in place since it's inception.

I was responding more to Shannon's terminology of what many of us do to keep this board strong.

V

I also voted no, Sorry we have been there and done that. Would really rather not going there again.
I do encourage you to work for a flower shop and or take some workshops or classes. Like someone said if you ever become a "real florist" please give us a try again.

Funny thing, when I voted no, a box popped up that said thanks, you may be lucky enough to get the same rep. dot........ Gosh, I hope not!

That's the interesting fact isn't it Victoria, the board eventually weeded out those that don't belong on its own, without the approval process. The approval process just speeds it up :)

True enough again, however I must admit to appreciating the participatory way the board has evolved... hence by voting people have a say.
