Hi everyone!

What is the realistic life-span of a boutonniere? Say it's 34 degrees (I think it's like 94 degrees for the US florists) and the wedding starts at 1, is it realistic to expect the boutonnieres to look glorious until 10pm? After all the hugging and all, I don't see how flowers don't fall out and wilt... Is there a secret?

No, the groomsmen and ushers generally eat them by 9:30.

This is, of course, age specific. Young 20 somethings are prone to this behavior.

To be a bit serious. It depends on the flower. most will be done by 10 pm.

Remember, there are too many variables at play here. The type of flower, hugs, guys taking their tuxes off and on, guys walking outside in the hot sun with their bouts pinned to their tuxes.

Hell, I would be wilted too after having to deal with some goofy groomsmen out looking for a good time.

I supply an extra bout for the groom and mention the hug factor while doing consultations if they are considering delicate flowers; roses will hold up better in a bout than a freesia.

Also, the little guys can be hard on their bouts too.

The last wedding we did was my niece's. I was at the reception and by 9:00most of the groomsmen were out of their jackets anyway! The couple rose bouts (large head Hot Lady) I saw were as flat as a pancake from hugging. The groom's bout was a cymbidium and it didn't fair too well got smooshed too. The corsages I made were in good shape! I put the corsages on the recepients and made sure they wore them high on their shoulder (they way they should be) instead of their chest. We used magnets on the corsages.

I attended a wedding once where the groomsmen's boutonnieres, made of lisanthus (perhaps) and purple roses, wilted before the ceremony began. The couple were married in the full sun with all parts of the wedding in full sun except that the reception buffet was under a tent. The chocolate icing melted off the wedding cake too.

I did a wedding and the ushers picked up the corsages from the cooler and left them in the car in the beating sun while they all went and played golf before the wedding. Nice looking corsages and bouts, they were..

dumb kids

This might be a little off the subject...but ....I did a gorgeous calla lily bouquet for the prom a few years back. The boy was so picky about what he wanted for his girlfriend...Cost him $75 He was so happy. He took it home and put it in the FREEZER!! His mother called frantic said it had turned reddish brown by the time he told her where it was. He told her he thought it would keep better there. LOL.
She was trying to blame it on us!
