Because the scales have recently been lifted from my own eyes regarding breast cancer awareness, I'd like to have some kind of promotion in the shop during the month of October.

I know my wholesaler has "pink ribbon" bouquets available during the month, and we have access to some other "awareness" merchandise we could feature.

Has anyone done an awareness campaign for their shop, who could give me some ideas I could implement?

Thanks.

We're having our "Girl's Night Out" event in Oct. and we're going to tie it in with Breast Cancer Awareness month. We have tried the Pink ribbon vases and having pink bouquets for sale (giving a percentage of the sales to Breast Cancer Research. Honestly though, our customers are not interested in pink flowers in Oct. in Wisconsin! ( and I would guess you would have the same issue in MN). I have been asking my wholesalers for two years to come up with a better bouquet that fits the season to no avail. This year, I think I'm going to give a recipe to one of them and have them do it for us. Something with burgundies, pinks and chartruese with a lot of texture that looks more fallish.

Our GNO event is fairly new..we've only done it twice before...last fall and this spring. We try to do it during the less hectic times of the year: Oct. and March. We market it as a fun night out for the ladies and encourage our customers to bring their girlfriends, daughters, moms, sisters, etc. We have a good discount for the evening, offer some good eats (and wine tasting in some of our locations), and door prizes too. We have done giveaways for the first 50 customers as well (last time a cute tote bag). So we know we have a fun event, now we would like to make it an event that raises some real money for Breast Cancer research...I'm contacting the local chapters to see how we can work together. One other idea I had was to do a special on pink intuition roses but our customers don't seem to like them all that much!

I believe in this months issue of Floristsreview there is an ad for breast cancer which featured a pink gathering vase with pink roses and other pink assorted flowers or it was just a vase arrangement in which there was pink roses and some other assorted flowers that would work for a breast cancer vase special. We're thinking of doing it ourselves but maybe on a smaller scale.

Annette,

In retrospect, it was your experience that made me think of this the other night as I was perusing, I think, Flowers&. I believe they had some featured promotions.

I digress.

I was perusing a crafts catalog and they had a whole bunch of pink ribbon charms and such. I have run into the same thing Sandy mentioned, I have a hard time moving the all-pink in October, wish they would have used a different month or different color. Anyway, what I decided to do is make my own pink ribbon plant stakes, using some of those charms, some beads, and pink deco wire. I'll be able to make them fairly in-expensively, so will be able to donate a portion easily.

Most probably I will have it on the home page of my website - add a pink ribbon charm and donate xxxxxx

We've been trying to be active for this cause for the last few years. Our window is done in pink, we made a 5x3 foot ribbon made of silk flowers to hang outside, we have a 6ft table which is surrounded with pink flowers & balloons. Pamphlets, info, t-shirts & bags on breast cancer are given to us from the ACS We also have a styro board with pink ribbon pins on the table (which are free) we have a drawing for free flowers, and best of all we have a glass container on the table for contributions. 2 years ago we collected over $3,000.
And yes, we do the walk.

If anyone wants more info on this just call the shop 8004349793
