I have a bride who wants to attach the wedding rings to the spadix (you know, yellow spikey-pointy thing) of a calla lily. The ring bearer will then carry this calla down the aisle. She says this is an old British tradition.

Is this possible and how do you attach the rings?
Thanks.

Katie, I have never heard of it, the tradition is for either the bestman to hold the rings or a page boy on a cushion.

But, that doesn't mean it doesn't happen, I have never ever heard that mentioned.

Oh I'm glad to hear that! :) So nice to know that I'm not totally in the blue. My grandfather is British and for a moment there -- I felt like a real dumbo.

Well, it's a 4 year-old walking with the calla and that spells trouble - tradition or no tradition...

Katie - What I would do is this.

Get two faux rings and cold glue them to the spadix ( for the overall look ) .... to meet the bride's request. Caution her about the risks of a 4 year old and suggest that the actual rings be kept with the best man and honor attendant.

THey could even bend down and pop the faux rings off the calla for 'show'.
