Hi everyone,

The weirdest thing just happened and I wanted your opinion/advice on this....

I just opened up a floral studio in our downtown area and struck a deal with a fancy restaurant to supply flowers for their tables every week. Last week was my first time supplying them and the owner just came by to tell me that there were bugs in the restaurant and their exterminator said it was because of some flower or plant. He tells me the only thing they have were my flowers... I an attempt to NOT lose them as a customer, I told them I'd do silks for them next week, free of charge, and we'll see if they still have a bug problem.

I have some of the same roses (same bunch and all) and I have no problem. No bugs in my studio!

Is it possible the flowers are attracting bugs? I'm really sure the roses didn't contain bugs, they were from my wholesaler whom I've been buying from for 5 years. Never had a problem!

Or maybe they're just trying to use me as the scapegoat for them not cleaning their own restaurant... ;)

Anybody ever heard of such a thing?

Thanks!
Julie

Um... do they have a door that opens to the outside? Do they use any kind of fruit or herbs in the building? I would like to speak to the exterminator to find out what kind of bugs he's saying you sent.

Unless they have a hermetically sealed building with bug sprays all over the place (ewee) I think you're a scapegoat.

Sounds like a scapegoat to me too.
I do flowers for the restaurant next to me and they have never said anything about bugs.
I do know that some flowers attract nats but I don't use them in the restaurant.

Rosebud06 would you be so kind to share with us what flowers you do not use that nats are attracted to?

In 3 years of me working out our shop, I have never seen bugs in any flowers. We too have a restaurant next to our downtown location. Although, they didn't want fresh flowers from us, they bought silks instead, but hey, money is money.

I got a bunch of glads that had worms in them once...(like the worms that get into corn) ICK! I promptly threw them in the compost eewing and icking the whole way ;)

Several years ago we had an irate customer complaining that bugs were in an arrangement that we sent to her friend. In fact, according to her, the bugs were crawling all over her table. When the arrangement was returned to the shop, we discovered that the "bugs" were spores from the leatherleaf. They didn't crawl around for us. LOL....although it was not so funny at the time.

I was once accused of slugs being in my flower arrangement that was delivered to a recipient and requested to be left on front porch. Of course recipient didn't return til late evening and swears the slugs did not come from her porch, even though is rained slightly that day.

i had an irate customer tell me that i delivered a basket arrangment once full of ants........ i insisted that it had not left our shop full of ants and where had it been kept . She was watering daily.. on the floor in her back garden, letting it drain and bring it back in.... need i say more ?

Update

I talked to the manager this week and they still have bugs, despite not even having flowers at all! I gave them some silks to have on display yesterday and there are still bugs... so it's confirmed: I didn't infest their place with bugs!

I don't know what they were thinking when blaming me. I mean I'd have to be completely oblivious to dethorn and arrange all their centerpieces and not notice bugs. What, did they think I didn't notice (ridiculous) or decided to send arrangements with bugs in them (business suicide)! Makes no sense...

Ah, well onto the bridezillas now... he he he :hammer:

Just wondering..Did you get an apology?? I wonder how many people were told you delivered flowers with bugs in them.. and how many of those people will ever hear it really wasn't you???

I did not get an apology, but honestly, I didn't expect one either... I am the new kid on the block and until I establish myself as a reputable flower studio, I fear I will only get more of this kind of ridiculous accusations and treatment.

In fact, from reading many of the threads on here, no matter how many years people have been in the business it seems there will always be customers coming in and saying weird things... Hey, it makes for good stories!

Julie :)
