A customer came in today to order a wreath for a burial at sea. I've never done this. My guess is to use a Mache/oasis wreath but she really wants it very simple with only palm leaves and siberian lilys ( only about 4 open blooms kind of tied to a form with raffia. A picture will be in the center. Any ideas??
She was really not crazy about the foam part, I thought about cutting the foam out and just using the mache as a form- but I'm not sure how that would work out. Help needed!

I love the grapevine idea. It is ocean friendly and a lovely look. (nice idea Jerry).

Reply to question about wreath

When I used to live and work in FL we had to do these fairly regularly. We would make the wreath frame out of Italian ruscus which will easily weave into a wreath work some plumosa or any light fluffy greenery into it then add our blooms and a raffia bow it makes a nice look and everything is friendly to the environment.

We live on the ocean too and get requests for these wreaths. We use the grapevine wreath (very eco friendly).

Interesting Topic

Only thing we've done close to this is floating arrangements in swimming pool.

Questions - Would it be preferable for the piece to float or sink? Do you even ask, or just do what you feel is best? I'd vote for float, but wonder if grapevine would float. Styrofoam floats unless too much product is used, but it's not eco friendly. I like the idea of weaved foliage.

The grapevine will float for as long as required... and then it sifts gently to the bottom of the lake or ocean. And of course it is eco friendly.

The sinking/floating thing bothered me a bit too. I would hate for the tribute with a picture in it to wash up on a beach- kind of creepy for the finder, I think. We are deffinately using the grapevine wreath with raffia.

I have a great bakery in town that will furnish me a wonderful hard round loaf of bread as small or large as I request of him. I then hollow out the center,
set outside to harden, spray with design master sealant, cut wet oasis the size of the opening, (but not inserted in bread until ready to leave the shop,
create the design and complete. They float beautiful, sink slowly, the fish get a treat and the display is increadably (tastefully) beautiful! Tropicals are the flowers of choice for my customers and work very well with this style.
