I have had a burning facial pain since last Monday and it has gotten progressively worse as time goes by. There is also a reddness over my entire face, but you can't see it until I take of my make up and I wear very little make up at that.

It is a stinging, burning pain accompanied by a headache, nauseau, lightheadedness and confussion. I went to the doctor today and they checked my blood pressure, blood sugar, blood count and all were fine. I have to go back Thursday for a round of blood test and if my Insurnace Company approves it a MRI on the 17th. The doctor did find some facial numbness that concerned her. She thinks it my be something neurological.

I have fibromyalgia, but she does't think it is anything to do with that. My sister has MS and the doctor said she couldn't rule that out, but with it being my entire face instead of only one side she would rather get more testing before giving me a reason for all of this.

My question is, have any of you ever expereinced this or know of anyone who has had these symptoms or anything simular?

Rosacea, coupled with an allergic reaction to foods, coupled with stress of mother's day - redness, stinging, burning, fever and headache (which added up to confusion). It was alleviated with antibiotic ointment and oral antibiotic. occasionally it will flare up, but goes away within a day or two. I hope your problem is this simple as well ...

Sending good thoughts for an easy solution....

Thanks Tracy, but she did rule out Rosacea because it is from under the jaw bone to my hair line and covers my entire face. Hate to hear that happened to you during a holiday, that makes it worse.

Probably not what my Mother has but since it took doctors 2 years to diagnose, I would suggest you look into "Tic douloureux". http://www.emedicinehealth.com/tic_douloureux/article_em.htm In her case, the trigeminal nerve is being compressed by a tumor. I pray that this is not the condition you have and I also pray that you are in good hands.

Have they ruled out shingles? I have a freind who is just getting over a bad case of them on one side of his face. Sounds very similar to what he experienced. Hope you are feeling better soon.:)

No remedy or ideas on what this is, but I'm thinking of you and praying for you.

Gigi, sorry to hear about the problems your Mom was having, was this pain over her entire face or on just one side. The doctor did mention this also, but said it is usually only one side of the face as the case is with shingles also.

Thank each of you for your thoughts and prayers.

Hope they find out what this is soon, the pain is unbareable. I just want to scream. The doctor did tell me to start doing some facial excerises and they seem to help for a few minutes afterwards but then the burning and pain are more intense.

Lizi,

I used to work for a medical clinic that performed low intensity laser therapy on conditions like what you're describing. It could be shingles, as mentioned earlier, or some form of neuralgia.

Does the pain feel like an electric tingle or charge? Might be Trigeminal Neuralgia, or if there was a shingles infection some form of post-herpetic neuralgia. They are quite painful, but treatable with the right approach.
