Buzz The Bee

We thought it was a great ad campaign! Our customer's really liked it too. Didn't one of the Wire Services complain too much, which lead to Buzz's demise? Can't remember who exactly, but I do remember the rumors as to why the commercials were pulled. Too bad, I thought it was good advertising for all of us.

He was wonderful. I heard that there was an effort to bring him back.

Buzz The Bee Was Killed By Shortsightedness...

He was created as a result of the Floraboard which was financed by a federal assesment on growers and/or importers. When time came for the vote to re-authorize the legislation in a referendum it was voted down because too many people in this industry could not see the value of generic advertising. There was a strong feeling that the promotional material helped the generic sales in the grocery stores more than the florists who couldn't find a way to have their individual business capitalize on it. In the case of florists, the opposition was much more successful than the opposition to the milk board or the beef board we read about from time to time, and the program was killed.

Loved him and so did the customers. People remembered the ads and the connection with flowers. Lot better generic promos for our product than some mushy lovey-dovey ad.

Here as well... he was universal and promoted the ease of flowers. Such a waste to dump him.

Does anyone remember the Buz The Bee promotion ?

Ah yes...the BUZZ....

For all the reasons already mentioned BUZZ was very good for the industry...

His demise was a result of the grower/wholesaler funding being passed onto the retailers in part...

IMHO grower/wholesalers are stupid in their thinking that all costs must be passed on...their short sighted vision does not equate to the fact that if they spend to grow the RETAIL SALES that it will come back to them thru MORE PURCHASES by RETAILERS needing their products because of consumer demand...(there's alot more to this theory, greed comes to mind)...

RIO Roses purchased all the rights to BUZZ last year and has yet to bring him out of the closet...hopefully he'll make a return as I feel he would be a much more effective "gimick" than RIO's current advertising offerings...

BUZZ created a buzz among florists and consumers alike, the ads were awesome and created exactly what they were supposed to do, awareness of flowers for EVERY and/or ANY occassion even giving them to men...
