I've just been told that FlowerBuyer will be starting a new method of buying fresh flowers. Buyers will be able to buy by the bunch rather than by the box. The buyer will have a box (more than one if desired, I'm sure) to fill (# of bunches depending on what is being bought), and can put whatever he/she wants from the auction into the box. So, if you cannot use an entire box of e. g., delphinium, you may buy 3 or 4 bunches, and mix and match bunches in your box. This will be a method of buying separate from the regular auction or Dutch Connect or others already being offered. I'm hoping that the prices will allow savings similar to the auction and to the tulip special that was being offered earlier.

This should be really great for those florists who would like to get the good deals on FlowerBuyer but cannot buy an entire box of one flower.

Interesting .... I get e-mails from them every week, so I don't even look at them anymore. That was probably the one I deleted this morning. Any idea when it might be starting?

It is my understanding that it will begin with a few buyers, to test the waters, I think. The first of these auctions will be tomorrow (Friday). I'm eager to see how it goes.

Their number is 1-877-625-3243. My rep is Sonia, and her extention is 275.

Great! I asked for this a long time ago

I'm excited about being able to buy by the bunch. I asked them quite some time ago if there was a "small town florist" mix, because I cannot use a whole box of one item. I will be trying this out and hope to hear from anyone else who does.

This sounds interesting.....but,

I bet there will be a higher price for by-the-bunch auction purchases. That may make it comparable to local wholesalers' prices.

For years, FB's prices have had multiple price tiers based on your shipping. Depending how you specify shipping, prior to the auction, (i.e, Fedex, traditional Aircargo, or the flat fee aircargo) auction flower prices will be different for the exact same product and grower.

Due to demand for the auction, prices for everyday flowers are much higher today than they were 5 years ago.

I looked at it and it specified the box charge and one fed ex charge ie $12.67/box and $19.07 or whatever are the real prices, but anyway, the prices for bunches of poms were close to $3.00, carnations over $.40 etc. Not real savings I would consider from my trucks.
I can use a box of poms/daisies, box of select carnations, box of mini carns or roses, pay much lower prices even with the box & fed ex charge. Why buy 5 bunches of daisies, 75 carnations, two gyp (which was over $4. less than my trucks charge), couple bunches of greens, bunch of LA Hybrids etc. Maybe for the variety but most of the landed prices would rival my trucks. If the prices drop, could be worth it but nowhere did I see what made a box lot either. May have to email my rep to find out what they are calling a box lot first.

I really did not have time over the weekend to look closely at this. It is possible to have your order delivered by air cargo. That option is not available for the first date, 6/5, but it did come up for 6/8. I didn't get to look at prices at all, but will, hopefully, do that later today.

Rhonda -
It sounds like you are going by the "Buy Now" or asking prices. Some of the prices I got last week, using both "Auto Bid" and actual auction bidding, and the $12.67/box + $19 option are:
alstro 80 cm 4 bloom 2.90/bu
aster asst 70 cm 1.91
gerbera lg spring mix .35 ea
hydrangea green mini .63 ea
lily Asiatic asst 3/5 5.40
limonium Safora dk bl 2.75
rose asst 70cm .31 ea
rose Freedom 70cm .34 ea
daisy pomps asst 1.39

Hey Tom (love your shop BTW) .....
could you give me a call.....800-734-9016 (9-5)

We looked at the prices of flowers for 6/8 delivery. For the items we are considering, flowers/greens that we do not normally buy because we do not want entire boxes of the product, the prices at Flower Buyer are still better on Buy the Bunch than on our trucks. We're looking forward to seeing what difference it will make in that the bunches are being inspected as they are being repacked to send to us.

I also found out that our Buy the Bunch box(es) will be included in the air cargo bill ($85) with our other boxes that we have shipped on the same day. This makes the question of how many bunches it takes to fill a box, not so important since we're paying the flat fee regardless of how many boxes we receive in that shipment.

Had a box of Sahara roses on order for delivery today so I tried the Buy The Bunch on Monday. I spoke with my rep first and discussed what "fills a box" and I got 2 tissue cultured statice, 2 hypericum, 1 ms.gyp "bouquet", 2 horsetail, 2 lily grass, 25 Freedom, 1 curly willow tip, and there was room for probably another 50 roses or similar packaged flowers.
The depot fee was already charged on the box of roses so I paid the extra 12.67 box charge. The total was less than $78 for the buy the bunch box. which is okay. The Freedom's alone I would pay $1.15 for 60 cm and they are gorgeous.
The gyp I would have paid $9.50 or $10.50 a bunch.
I'm pleased for what I paid for & what I got. I'd say check it out. Remember that we don't pick up at the airport, ours come to us by FedEx.

The air cargo option is no longer available for Buy the Bunch, so that definitely will make us reconsider buying this way.
